One Step At A Time
It was a cold chilly day and the sky was downcast. The weather had been this way all week and would continue to for a while. Meteorologists were baffled such weather could occur outside of typhoon season. Yet the weather remained gloomy and cloudy. Dark clouds hovered over the city of Tokyo threatening to flood it with rain at any minute. People bustled about without a care in the world yet the city seemed somewhat desolate as if the citizens moved about with no souls at all.
One such woman with long beautiful ebony hair and sparkling sapphire eyes sighed as she sat in a cafe next to the window. She rested her chin on her hand while her elbow was propped up on the table. She absent minded out of the window and at the people crosssing the streets and the cars going by. the woman was looking but not really seeing. She felt cold and hollow. Shaking her head the woman got up and left a tip on the table and walked out of the cafe. A small drop of rainwater onto the woman's head told her that rain would be coming. The woman pulled out her mini umbrella and opened it.
As if on cue rain began to pour on the city of Tokyo. The woman walked down the street muttering curses about foul weather and being later for her concert at the local bar. Finally, she reached the back door of the club.
"Hey Kagome, where have you been? I was starting to think that you got stuck somewhere in this rain!" the stage manager cried.
"Relax Miroku I was just in a cafe a few blocks down. I was just........thinking." Kagome put on a fake smile and looked down. Miroku knew what Kagome was thinking,"Ah, it's that day again.....the anniversary of Sesshomaru's death." Miroku said sullenly. Kagome tried to choke back tears.
"I-I...miss him so much!" Kagome covered her mouth and walked away to her room. Miroku looked up sadly and sighed. He made the sign of the cross and said a small heatfelt prayer for Sesshomaru and especially Kagome.
In Kagome's room she did her makeup while her friend Sango did her hair. Sango curled Kagome's hair (like the way Melinda Gordon has her hair most of the time in Ghost Whisperer) while Kagome applied eye shadow.
Ayame the wolf demoness came in to say that they had a few mintures before show time. Inuyasha, Kouga, Rin, and Kohaku, and Toga were sitting in the front row of the cafe club near the black grand piano. The other musicians were setting up or practicing their instuments when Kagome finally stepped out of her room in a red halter top dress that clung a little to her hips showing off her curves. Kagome wear a hint of light green eyeshadow and red liptsick. A diamond bracleet and earrings completed her look. Kagome took in a nervous breath praying for her success.
'Sesshomaru, I wish you were here to see me perform. But I know that somewhere you're in heaven smiling down at me, protecting me....always'
"Kagome, we're on!" Miroku whispered as he gave Kagome a light shove toward the royal blue velvet curtains. Kagome straightened up while Miroku handed her a microphone. When the curtains separeted Kagome was faced with many people in the cafe club applauding for her. Kagome gulped back her anxiety but her heart still raced with nervousness. Kagome took a few steps foward and introduced herself.
"Hello everyone, My name is Kagome Higurashi and tonight I'm going to song you a very special song that I once shared with someone I loved....This song is dedicated to my love, Sesshomaru Taisho." Kagome announced.
Toga looked down solemnly for a brief second as if reminicing the times he saw Sesshomaru and Kagome laugh and smile as a couple. It pained his heart that his son was taken from the world so early, from Kagome. No one expected it would happen but it did. Naraku got the death sentence and was executed the following day after his trial. Toga and Kagome visited Sesshomaru's grave and they both held each other and cried (not like that you sickos!)
"R.I.P
Sesshomaru Taisho
Son of Toga and Megumi Taisho
Faithful Fiance of Kagome Higurashi Taisho
Loving Father of Rin Taisho
He will be remebered and missed."
The words on Sesshomaru's grave flashed through Kagome's mind as she tried desparately to calm her nerves. She nervously licked her lips and took in a soothing deep breath before beginning her song. She waited while the musicians played the intro of the song before she cut in.
Hurry up and wait
So close, but so far away
Everything that you've always dreamed of
Close enough for you to taste
But you just can't touch
Kagome closed her eyes to avoid looking at the crowd whil her heart raced from the nervousness of being on stage. Images of Sesshomaru and his perfect shining face assaulted her mind. But Kagome pushed them away and focused on the lyrics of the song which flowed from her mouth in perfect harmony with the music. Everyone was spellbound by Kagome's magical angellike voice. Inuyasha sucked in a breath and leaned foward a little gazing intensely at Kagome who opened her eyes and started to move in rythmn with the beat of the song.
You wanna show the world, but no one knows your name yet
Wonder when and where and how you're gonna make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face and the door keeps slamming
Now you're feeling more and more frustrated
And you're getting all kind of impatient waiting
We live and we learn to take
A pain ached in Kagome's heart as she contined to sing the lyrics. She caught Toga's gaze and she secretly understood his message. Kagome nodded her head slightly but not enough for anyone else to notice except the ever observant Toga.

Kagome could feel a cold chill and shivered a little as she moved her hips sweetly to the timing of the music. Toga's eyebrows went up as he noticed Kagome reaction. Kagome began moved her shoulders along with her hips. Everyone sarted to clap to the song and other people started singing along with Kagome.
You believe and you doubt
You're confused, you got it all figured out
Everything that you always wished for
Could be yours, should be yours, would be yours
If they only knew
Kagome's expression dimmed a little bit as she thought of the last day she saw Sesshomaru alive. He had visited her for a short time at her apartment and kissed her goodbye saying he would be back soon. Kagome knew he was partly lying about something and his words seemed to be empty. She would find out later that Sesshomaru said those words from the heart and that he didn't want to worry her. In the back of her mind Kagome knew something was wrong but she pushed it aside and went about her day as if nothing was wrong.

That day Kagome went shopping with Rin, Sesshomaru's adopted daughter and they spent the day browsing for clothes and jewelry for a party that Sesshomaru's father Toga invited them to. Toga always loved to host parties and he simply adored Kagome's sweet personality. Whenever Kagome came to his parties he would always give her a big hug and a kiss on the cheek saying she was gorgeous.

It wasn't until three days had passed that Kagome has started to worry about Sesshomaru's whereabouts. She called his cell phone dozens of times but he didn't pick up. Then she called Toga but he said Sesshomaru never came home. Kagome started to panic as she tries to piece together what happened to her and Sesshomaru the last few weeks. She did notice that Sesshomaru seemed a little distant and skiddish about something but Kagome didn't want to bother Sesshomaru with questions.
It was then a horrifying idea struck her thoughts that almost made Kagome want to puke in disgust. Racing to an old warehouse where Sesshomaru spent most of his time working on blueprints for his father's company or his hobby of fixing, making, and painting cars.
When Kagome arrived an aweful feeling hummed in the pit of her stomach and something in her mind told her to turn around and go back. But Kagome stubbornly trudged on and was a little tacken aback that the warehouse door was slightly ajar. Kagome gulped and stepped closer. She slid the door aside even more but her eyes widened at the most horrific sight she had been dreading since her conclusion. Blood littered the floor and there lay Sesshomaru's limp body lying on his side with his long but bloodied silver hair covering his face. There were signs of a fight because everything was a shambles. Kagome fell on her knees right next to Sesshomaru's body and tried to convince herself that this was just a joke, a twisted dream. Finally, Kagome let out and agonzing scream at the top of her lungs and hunched over Sesshomaru's body crying over it. She grabbed him and craddled him like a child not caring if his blood stained her clothes.
That day was the day Kagome died....along with Sesshomaru. She has never been the same ever since.
When you can't wait any longer
But there's no end in sight
It's the faith that makes you stronger
The only way we get there

Kagome could feel a crushing feeling on her heart as she sang on. People were swaying or bobbing their heads with the music. Kagome thought she saw a flash of white but shook her head a little. Something in the back of the club caught her attention and Kagome nearly dropped the microphone in shock. But instead she merely stopped singing for a second with her mouth hanging open. The audience stopped and looked at her and then turned to look at the back of the room but they saw nothing. They turned back to Kagome giving her confused looks. But Kagome clearly saw the transparent form of Sesshomaru sitting in a seat and watching her intenly while smiling. Behind him was the spirit of Inuyasha's long deceased mother who rest a hand on Sesshomaru's shoulder while standing. She too had a smile on her face.

Shaking her head Kagome picked the song back up and was smiling more than ever. She felt a heavy weaight lighted from her heart and she poured her heart and soul into the music shocking the audience who were baffled by her rekindled spirit, even more so before the interuption in the in the song. Some people went back to clapping and swaying to the music. Others got up and started dancing. Coples leaned into each other and kissed. Toga was taken aback at Kagome's change in attitude but when he glanced back he had to do a double take. He saw Sesshomaru wave to him and smile slightly. Toga blinked and gasped. Inuyasha turned to him and gave him a questioning look saying there was no one in the back. Toga turned back to observe Kagome and a ghost of a smile appears on his lips. It was then that he knew everything was alright. Kagome would be just fine.

When Kagome finished the song everyone shot up from their seats clapping madly, whistling, and wooting for her. Kagome's heart pounded not from pain but from the joy she felt of putting her heart into something she loved most; singing. Even after the congradulations of many fans, autographs, and hugs from her friends and Toga, Kagome left alone in her car feeling that for the first time she was alive.
Kagome drove down the nearly empty streets and hardly took notice of the drunk driver that was gaining ground behind her. It was too late when Kagome looked at the rearview mirror and saw headlight of a car approaching fast. The other car hit hers with such force that Kagome was thrown foward several feet while her body shattered the glass of her windshield on her way. Kagome's body landed several feet in front of her car while the drunk driver slumped foward dead in his seat.
That day Kagome was reunited with her love Sesshomaru. The moment her body hit the pavement and she passed he appeared and helped her spirit out of her body. They both smiled knowing that this time they would not be separated.
For many months everyone mourned her death; her fans especially. But they were a little confused as to why Toga was not so heart broken about it. They imagined him crying her name and wailing at her gravestone but he seemed cheerful after the funeral. Toga smiled knowing that Kagome was finally happy with Sesshomaru and just that thought was what kept him going.
The End
