The Will of the iPod
Kagome pulled herself over the edge of the well, her headphones pulsing music loudly into her ears. She wasn't sure if the spell cast over the well would corrupt her mp3 player, and as she landed on the soft grass to the sounds of Coldplay, she grinned with satisfaction. Pulling an uncharacteristic victory dance, she was pulled up short as she found herself gazing at a pair of amber eyes. Kagome yelped as she fell back, landing hard against the ground. Glaring up at the culprit of her embarrassment, Kagome stood up, brushing off any dirt that graced her behind.
"You think you are just so funny, don't you?" Kagome snapped at Sesshomaru, her brown eyes narrowing dangerously. A small smirk played about his lips for a moment before replying.
"Hysterical, actually; funny does not make me smile." Sesshomaru's retort quickly diminished the annoyance Kagome felt with him. It was amazing how much a person could change. Since Naraku's defeat, Rin had been training with Kagome and Kaede to become a priestess, so Sesshomaru crossed paths with them often. At first, when he began visiting, it had been tense; it had been so hard to believe that the tall daiyoukai could love anyone or anything.
However, as months passed and Sesshomaru began to frequent the small village, Kagome had become friends with him - though he and InuYasha still fought from time to time. A small smile gracing her lips, Kagome looked up at him expectantly as she rocked back and forth on her feet.
"What?" he asked, his face completely deadpan. Kagome hated when he did this to her because it was always hard to tell whether he was serious or not - well until the corner of his mouth twitched slightly. Trying to subtly look around, she stayed in her spot in anticipation.
"Where is it Sesshomaru?" she asked with excitement. He arched an eyebrow before bring a small box out from behind his back.
"Oh, you mean this?" he asked, handing her the box. Kagome giggled, tearing the box open.
"Oh, it's absolutely beautiful," she said, putting the whale bone hair comb into her hair. A small blue pearl sparkled from its bed in the finely crafted comb. She rushed forward, jumping up to give him a kiss on the cheek and a hug. Returning her embrace gently, he was quick to place her back on the ground.
"Better be careful, or the idiot will get jealous." Sesshomaru remarked. Kagome snorted in a very unladylike manner; InuYasha had not been around Kaede's village for almost three months, just returning a week ago. Since Kikyo had been killed, InuYasha had search relentlessly to see if an incarnation had been born - in this time and in Kagome's. She wasn't sure how but when Kikyo had died, her soul had separated from Kagome's to rejoin the miko's.
Looking at the man who stood with her now, she wasn't so upset at InuYasha; in all honesty, as soon as the tension broke between them, Kagome found herself becoming more attracted to Sesshomaru each day. How could she not when every day that he came to visit Rin, he looked at the girl with such tenderness. The way a father would, she thought wistfully.
And he isn't half bad to look at, Kagome thought with a small smile. As if sensing the naughty thoughts that would fill the young girl's mind, Viva la vida faded as Britney Spears' Toxic filled the head phones, causing Kagome to giggle at first.
"How appropriate," she said to herself. Sesshomaru turned to look at her curiously.
"What's appropriate?" he asked. Kagome's eyes widened in horror as she realized that he was still there, her cheeks reddening slowly.
"Uh, nothing. Nothing at all," she said, flustered. He shushed her, as he tilted his head slightly to the side; an array of emotions crossing his face had Kagome nearly rolling on the ground in laughter. He looked confused at first, but as the song went on in her head phones, a light flush suffused his cheeks.
"I think a creature of the night maybe hawking her wares somewhere nearby." He continued listening, sending Kagome to her knees as she began to laugh so hard that her stomach hurt. "It's strange. She seems to be singing it."
Glancing down at Kagome as she was gasping for breath, Sesshomaru thought she was in pain. Kneeling down next to her, he took her hand gently in his own, concern etched into his features - at least until he noticed the white strings that were hanging out of her ears. A demon? But no, that can't be right; I would have sensed its youki. Tugging softly on the strings they fell easily out of her ears.
Realizing that this was the source of the sounds he had heard before, he snatched it away from Kagome. He stared at the strange nubs that hung on the end of each the strings, curious as to how they worked. Kagome watched with alarm as he moved to put one of her ear buds into his pointed ear, getting up quickly and tackling him. Thrown off guard, Kagome knocked the strong demon lord off his feet and started struggling with him to get the mp3 player back.
"Sesshomaru give it back!" Kagome yelped as she was tossed off of him, landing again on her butt. Determined to not have him listen to the sexually driven song, Kagome threw herself back on him, knocking the mp3 player and headphones out of his hand. His attention drawn toward the still playing headphones, Kagome resorted to one last ditch effort, and leaned forward to surprise him with a kiss.
Sesshomaru went completely still in her arms as her soft lips pressed against his own, shock overwhelming him. As she sat back up, the red flush creeping into her cheeks, she prepared to apologize to him. However before she could even get the words out, he cut her off.
"I wanted to hear the last part of the song!" he said petulantly. Kagome grinned; he'd had no problem with her kissing him and, in every likelihood, had enjoyed it a great deal. Remembering the last two verses of the song where it had left off, Kagome echoed the words.
"With a taste of your lips, I'm on a ride. You're toxic, I'm slipping under; with a taste of a poison paradise, I'm addicted to you. Don't you know that you're toxic?" She purred out the last sentence, watching with delight as his eyes darkened. Before she could finish, Sesshomaru had pulled her back down into his embrace.
This time it wasn't gentle. It was a passionate maelstrom of nibbling teeth, teasing tongues and eager lips. Her mouth was bruised when she pulled away for air, her hair teased into messy tresses that hung about her face, making her look wild. As she was drawn back for more, Kagome couldn't help but think of the remaining words of the song.
