I'm still working on Thicker Than Blood but I was listening to this song and inspiration hit me. I hope you enjoy this. ^-^ Also I couldn't really come up with a time period so it's a mix of different points in history with an Eastern and Western combination.
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or the song this is based off of.

It was serene silence that filled the night sky as Sesshomaru walked through the field to his home. I bit of orange and pink dabbled the horizon as dawn approached. A smile whispered on his lips as he let his stoic appearance fade a little from the evening he just had. For the past month he had been involved in a secret affair with the young girl Kagome.
She had always intrigued him ever since they were young but unfortunately her father and his were bitter rivals. Ironically she is best friends with his half brother but it too is in secret. His father was dead, hers was not. Otherwise he would have asked for her hand long ago but her father would disown her. Normally he wouldn't care but he knew she loved her father dearly and he couldn't do that to her.
Sesshomaru pulled out of his musings as he looked up to the night sky before entering his home. The moment he set foot inside two men grabbed him roughly. He fought against them only to be punched in the jaw by one. He shook his head as he tried to make straight his vision. "Yagari you're coming with us to the bailiff, he wants to speak to you." Stated one. It was only then he realized that these two men were from the town and worked under the bailiff to help keep the peace. Sesshomaru's heart beat like a drum but he didn't show any of his anxiety and only spit out the blood in his mouth.
He didn't struggle in their grasps and only calmly asked his question. "Why does the bailiff wish to speak to me? Have I done something?" Both men were shorter than him but the shorter one snorted and answered. "As if you don't already know." The man then cuffed Sesshomaru's hands behind his back and forced him outside with the other man following.
The light was filling the sky a bit more but the sun wouldn't rise almost for another hour. They forced him into a barred carriage and locked him in. Sesshomaru could feel panic rising in him although he still didn't show it. If this was about his affair with Kagome then she will be forever shamed. The village would treat her as an outcast as well as her family. Her father would accuse him of rape but it wouldn't change the peoples view on her.
As that got closer and closer he could hear his blood pumping through his heart and his palms were in tight fists. When they reached the station house they dragged him out and pushed him violently into the building. They forced him into the single chair with his hands still cuffed and nodded to the bailiff. Sesshomaru's heart was pounding so loudly now he was afraid everyone would hear it.
The bailiff was a pudgy man and he smiled down on Sesshomaru and joked. "I'm sure this is all just a big misunderstanding Mr. Yagari which I'm sure we can clear up before the sun fills the sky." Sesshomaru only stared at him as he waited for him to continue.
The bailiff, whose name is Yashiro Senri, walked over to a table and lifted up a pistol. He walked over to Sesshomaru with his friendly smile and showed it to him. "You see there was a robbery this evening at the tavern and this pistol was left at the scene. Can you tell me the significance of this pistol?"
Sesshomaru couldn't explain the relief he felt knowing this wasn't about Kagome but it quickly died as a growl of anger filled deep in his chest. Someone was setting him up. He stared down at the pistol, his eyes growing cold with anger and answered. "The pistol belongs to me." The bailiff nodded keeping his smile and started to move around him.
He stopped in front of him again after having set the pistol down and bent down slightly. "So you can see my confusion Mr. Yagari which can easily be cleared up with knowing your whereabouts this evening." Sesshomaru instantly stiffened but for a reason different to what the bailiff thought. "You will be disappointed to hear that I cannot tell you."
The bailiff’s smile left his face an anger took its place. "Well unless you have someone to vouch for your whereabouts then I have no choice but to send you to prison. This pistol and no alibi tells me clearly that you're guilty so unless you give me a witness you're going away for ten." Sesshomaru closed his eyes briefly as he resigned himself to his fate. He would not tell them of Kagome and did not have anyone to lie for him. It was well known Inuyasha and him did not get along and he was mostly a loner.
He opened his eyes and looked directly into the bailiff’s eyes, his own steeled in his resolve. Silence filled the room and the bailiff backed up knowing his answer. "Very well. You leave me no choice." He turned to his men. "Take Yagari to the docks and send him on the boat to the prisoners island which he will spend ten years." The two men nodded with a "Yes sir." and roughly grabbed him by the arms. The station house was next to the docks so it didn't take long before they were pushing him into the prisoner boat. Sesshomaru looked out the bars at the village he grew up in and looked in the direction he knew her to be.
Minutes later the boat started to move but he didn't take his eyes away. He continued to stare out into the distance wishing he were still in her arms. Just as his home disappeared from his sight the suns bright rays stretched out and kissed the large village. He closed his eyes as the first rays of his imprisonment touched his face as if caressing him, reminding him of her gentle touches.
Her handkerchief weighed heavily in his coat pocket and he wished he had the freedom to hold it and inhale her sweet scent, if only to fill the empty gap starting to form. He knew these were going to be the longest years of his life but he did not regret protecting her. Strong resolve filled him as he opened his citrine eyes. He would never regret it and he would return to her. Even if she moved on with her life without him he promised to return and fill his arms with her.
He looked back out into the direction he knew her to be, slightly blinded by the golden light, and whispered in his mind. I promise you. I will return one day.
