Prompt #1-Ring
*Ring ring*
The figure groaned as a hand appeared from under the covers to blindly search for the infernal contraption that was disturbing her sleep. Finally after a few moments of fumbling she found it.
“Hello.” She mumbled as soon as it was under the covers and pressed to her ear.
“Did you forget what day it was?” He asked in amusement.
“My sleep in day?”
“No.”
“I give up.”
“You hardly started.” He chuckled. “Get up onna.”
“Why?”
“We’re ring shopping today.”
Quick as lightning she was up. “Ohmygod I’ll be ready in a moment!”
“That’s what I thought.”
Prompt #2- Hurdle
They’d overcome many hurdles in their relationship to get to this point; and at first she didn’t think they would make it. He was so stoic and reserved, while she was all about expressing every emotion and had never been shy about speaking her mind.
But as they strolled down the street while looking for the perfect ring; she felt content and at peace. No everything wasn’t always peaches and cream with them, but they’d managed to overcome those hurdles of life and differences.
In the end it was worth it after all; she smiled as she hugged his arm.
Prompt #3- Flame
Their earlier shopping expedition had proved fruitless and he was frustrated beyond belief; in hopes of getting him to calm down, Kagome suggested they go out to his favorite Bistro for dinner.
“It’s alright Sessh, really.” She said as she reached across the table to clasp his hand.
“Hn.” He said as he gazed at the flame of the small candle that graced their table.
“I already told you I didn’t need a ring, just your love.”
“It’s not enough.”
“Why wouldn’t it be?”
“Because I want the world to know that you are mine, as I am yours… forever.”
Prompt #4- Honor
She didn’t understand Sesshomaru’s need to mark her as his with a piece of jewelry; after all he’d already marked her as his mate, so what was the point? She’d been raised by simple standards and didn’t believe in flashy things, but he hadn’t- it was the main difference between them.
“Really Sessh this isn’t a big deal, I don’t NEED a ring!” She huffed. “You’ve already marked me as your mate, that is enough.”
“No it is not.” He said. “That doesn’t count in your world.”
“Is that what this is about, people’s expectations?”
“No, this is about honor.”
Prompt #5- Relay
Their second trip proved just as fruitless as the first on the account that Kagome got called into work. Sesshomaru had insisted she run along while he continued the search for the perfect ring. And unfortunately for her bosses sporadic needs; she was to busy playing the relay messenger between him and the marketing department to worry about Sesshomaru and his quest.
Finally after an hour of straightening out her bosses mess, she told him she had some errands to run and skipped out, dialing Sesshomaru’s number as she stepped into the elevator.
“Yes?”
“I’m done, where are you now?”
Prompt #6- Torch
Kagome apprehensively made her way along the torch lit path; Sesshomaru had told her there’d been a change in plans and that he wanted her to meet him at his families estate, but once there one of the servants told her to follow the path through the garden.
“Sesshomaru?” She called out softly as she made her way along.
A moment later the sound of a female’s laughter caught her attention; oh so slowly she made her way to a clearing and what she saw had her heart shattering to a million pieces. For there was Sesshomaru, with another woman.
Prompt #7- Clear
Not one to simply run away, Kagome stomped into the clearing, startling the pair before her. “What the hell is this?”
“Kagome? What are you doing here?” Sesshomaru asked in alarm.
“What am I doing here!? You TOLD me to come here!” She exclaimed. “Care to clear things up before I start purifying body parts?”
“It’s not what you think.” He said quickly.
“Saying that makes me think it’s exactly what I think.” She growled.
“Kagome please-“
“Just forget it, forget everything.” She said as her eyes filled with tears; then before he could say anything, she turned and fled.
Prompt #8- Damage
Sesshomaru sighed as he buried his head in his hands; every attempt to get a hold of Kagome had ended in failure. If only she hadn’t run off before giving him a chance to explain just who the woman was and why she was there. If only she’d given him that chance instead of running.
Of course in telling her who the woman was meant he’d be giving up the surprise he’d concocted for her; in the end he decided it didn’t matter, getting her back into his life was much more important than surprises.
“It’s time for damage control.”
Propmt#9- Mist
Kagome sighed as she rolled over and glanced at the window to find there was a light mist falling. The weather had been horrible the past few days, only serving to dampen her mood more. She’d called in sick and even went so far as to stay at her mothers just to avoid him.
She knew she shouldn’t have run off, but she’d already been hurt and her trust was very fragile.
When someone knocked on the door, she climbed out of bed and opened it. The moment she saw the downtrodden expression of her ‘boyfriend’, she sighed.
“I’m listening.”
Prompt#10- Subtle
“So she’s your step cousin and you asked her to help you find a ring?” She asked after he explained everything. “And you were hoping to surprise me with it?”
“Yes, I could never betray you koi.”
She was silent a moment as she studied his eyes; appreciating the subtle shift of emotion they held within. “I’m sorry for not trusting you and running off.”
He sighed in relief as he pulled her into his arms while deftly slipping the diamond encrusted band on her finger. “I’ll forgive you, if you promise to marry me.”
“How could I say no?”
