A/N: Here it is! I've been crazy excited about this story and I finally pulled myself out of my writers block hole enough to get the first chapter down! This is for Reinventing The Classics with Priestess Skye. The story I have chosen to reinvent: Peter Pan.
Enjoy!
A Pirate’s Life for Me
Chapter One
Kagome tapped her pencil against her desk impatiently, waiting for class to end. Normally she loved her English class but it was her last class of the day and she was already a day late to meet her friends on the other side of the well. She just knew Inuyasha was going to throw a massive fit about how she was always slowing them down by taking her “stupid” trips through the well for school. She loved Inuyasha but sometimes he was just too much and she just wanted to sit him into oblivion. She was pulled from her visions of dog demons with mouthfuls of dirt by the teacher calling for attention.
“Attention everyone! I’d like to go over your next assignment. We’re going to go over character development this month and I’d like to ease you into it with something fun. I want you all to read Peter Pan, yes even if you’ve already read it, and don’t even think you can just watch the movies. I really want you to read this carefully and pay close attention to the characters and their personalities.
After you’ve read the book, I want you to describe the personalities of the main characters and give your opinion of how you feel about each character and why you feel they are the way they are. This assignment will be due in-” He was cut off by the bell and shouted the rest over the sound of chairs scraping across the floor and students talking.
“Two weeks, people! You can grab your copy of the book from my desk on your way out!” Kagome grabbed her copy and stuffed it into her bag before bolting out the door.
When she made it home she burst through the front door and rushed upstairs to grab the overstuffed yellow pack that she filled the night before and bounded back down the stairs, two at a time. She shouted a quick good bye to her family and was traveling through the well faster than you could say “beam me up, Scotty”. Before her feet could touch the ground, she was being hauled up and out of the well by familiar, red clothed, arms.
“’Bout time wench! We’re a whole day behind and them jewels ain’t gunna find themselves!” He shouted in her face. She turned her face away from him and pouted, crossing her arms over her chest, and grumbling under her breath.
“Inuyasha, cease this childish behavior. We are losing daylight with much ground to cover.” Sesshomaru said calmly, causing the whole group to go silent and follow after him obediently.
Kagome was secretly pleased that Sesshomaru had joined them in their fight against Naraku. Not only could they use all the help they could get, but he also kept the bickering to a minimum. She would never tell anyone, but a small part of her was beginning to enjoy watching Inuyasha get put in his place. She really admired Sesshomaru and held great respect for him. The part she felt most guilty about was how attractive she thought he was; it felt like she was betraying her love for Inuyasha by thinking about his brother that way.
Even though Inuyasha seemed oblivious to the fact that Kagome was in love with him, her affections stayed true and loyal to him. She had such high hopes that after all the distractions were gone, Naraku defeated and the jewel wished away, Inuyasha would finally notice and return her affections; that they could build a life together and have children. All she wanted in life was to find love and settle down; it’s what she wanted since she was little a little girl dreaming of her Prince Charming.
Inuyasha was no Prince Charming, however, and every time he went to Kikyo it broke her heart. She never let him know that she knew and tried to pretend not to care when he knew she knew, but inside it was eating her alive. What does Kikyo have that she doesn’t? Was she not loyal enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough? Why didn’t he love her the way he loved Kikyo? With these questions buried deep in her heart and festering, she began to reconsider her love for him, but then he would do something that hinted at more than friendship and she’d feel guilty for ever doubting.
That evening, when they set camp and settled down for sleep, she pulled out the book from class and began to read. It was one of her favorite stories; she loved adventure. As her eyes devoured the pages she began to drift off and into the land of dreams.
*When she opened her eyes and found she was lying in tall grass and staring up at the trees. Sensing something was amiss; she bolted up and looked around. She was in a forest, but not the same one she fell asleep in. This forest was tropical. She began to panic as she realized that she wasn’t where she was supposed to be. How had she gotten here? Where was here anyway?
She walked around in circles for a good hour, getting nowhere but lost. Exasperated, she fell back into the tall grass in defeat. As she looked up, she expected to see brightly colored birds in the trees but instead she saw-
“Inuyasha?!”
“Inuyasha? Who’s that? I’m Peter Pan, Wendy. Don’t you remember?”
“W-Wendy?”
“Yeah! Why you act all surprised? Now c'mon! It’s time for your stories!” He said with his hands on his green clothed hips, silver hair swaying in the breeze. He ran off ahead of her, but stopped and looked back to her with a familiar smirk. “Welcome to back Neverland.” *
