Kagome wiggled her hips to the American music playing on her small Hello Kitty radio as she sat cross legged on her bathroom counter. Sticking her tongue out of the side of her mouth she concentrated on clipping bright red bobby pins in her vibrant hyacinth hair.

She suddenly cursed and with one hand holding a heavy blue braid, fumbled through her messy drawer and pulled out a larger yellow clip that she used to pin the braid up with. Admiring her handiwork in the mirror she gave herself a small indulgent smile as she slipped off the counter, her lacy white skirt trailing behind her.

She jogged into her bedroom, grabbed her hot pink cell off of her bedside table and plopped herself down into the soft warmth of her plushy comforter. Quickly she dialed a number and propped the phone up on her shoulder, pressing it firmly against her ear as she freed up her hands which she used to touch up her nails with the white polish that sat on the green carpet next to her foot.

Sango laughed as she watched Kagome approach, -her high heels adding at least three or four inches to her diminutive frame- blue hair, skimpy black leather outfit and coiled up bullwhip at her hip.

She unbuckled her seatbelt and flung an arm out the passenger side window, waving her friend over as she yelled good naturedly for her to hurry up. Kagome jerked at the loud noise, but after squinting her pretty blue eyes and spotting her friend in the crowded parking lot, she sped up her pace.

As she opened the blue door to the compact little Subaru Sango drove, Kagome quickly slid in the seat, and slammed the door. She started fussing over her appearance in the small flip down mirror, and apologizing profusely for being late. "-nd I mean I just couldn't get my hair right, and then my outfit tore, LOOK!" She shifted in her seat until she was completely bent out of position, pointing out a small tear in the black leather skirt that had been crudely sewn with black thread.

"Kagome, get back in your seat! The last time you tried to show me something wrong with you're outfit, I ended up getting a ticket, sit straight and do up you're seatbelt!" Sango scolded as she smacked Kagome on her tight leather clad bottom.

Kagome pouted, sticking out her pink bottom lip and crossed her tan arms over her chest. "Fine, mom."

Sango gave her a pointed look and made a right turn on the busy street. Kagome watched as her friend gently let the wheel turn back into place, the indicator stopping it's rhythmic clicking.

"Hey San, do you think that maybe on the way back I could...maybe dri-"

Her friend was quick to answer. "No, you're not driving. We've already been through this, you plus cars -parked or not- equals disaster."

Kagome rolled her eyes and flicked the older girls ear. "Oh come on, it wasn't that bad, I mean it was only a few trees, and a lamp post."

Sango widened her doe brown eyes as she turned her head the side to stare at Kagome in disbelief for a second, before training her gaze back on the street. "The few trees you ploughed through before you totalled the-" she held up her fingers, "three cars, or the ones you ran into right before you smacked into the lamp post?"

The blue haired girl smiled sheepishly, and fiddled with her long nails. "Okay, so it was pretty bad, but I think I've improved. I mean I didn't even have my licence back then-"

"Sweetheart, you still don't have you're licence."

Kagome pursed her lips, "well that's completely besides the point, stop trying to get me off topic."

Sango moaned and pulled into a spot before shifting into park and smacking her head against the dashboard.

She was ready to argue about who had the right to drive home, when she realized Kagome was already otherwise occupied staring at the huge cement building covered in dark windows.

"Wow San, I've never been to a competition this big before!"

Kagome turned her big blue eyes to her friend, and her grin seemed to take up half her face in excitement.

"Don't smile so big." Sango mumbled, "or you're face will stick that way."

Kagome snorted. "Stop being such a buzz kill. Let's go, Let's go!"

As her friend practically vibrated with excitement, Sango slowly nodded before exiting the car and stretching her back.

Her hand was grabbed and her shoulder almost yanked out of it's socket as Kagome pulled her towards the entrance, breezing by others decked out in full costume regalia, emulating their favourite anime characters.

Kagome's eyes were shifting quickly as she tried to take in everything around her, and she nearly turned her head all the way around before Sango pushed her into the revolving doors that signified the entrance of the building.

The freezing air conditioning was a shock after the humid summer heat, and Kagome gingerly tugged the leather of her outfit away from her lightly perspiring skin so it wouldn't stick and squeak.

As she finished pulling her skirt back into place she looked up, and was completely awed by what she saw.

The building was huge, with a ceiling twice as high as a house and sparkling granite walls. The giant tinted windows let light stream though and illuminate the interior, casting a pleasant glow on everything. The sparse furniture that was around -she assumed the rest had been moved out to accommodate the huge amount of people- was finely crafted, and looked like it was made of the finest materials that money could buy.

But all that escaped her attention as she was completely focused on the crowds of people teeming around dressed in costumes. Some beyond elaborate and handcrafted, while others were more simple and obviously store bought. Still it was amazing to see so many people show up to a cosplay event, granted this one had been advertised all year, and was going to be the talk of Tokyo for a very long while.

Kagome quickly re-arranged her face into the innocent lopsided grin that her character Kitty was famous for and waved goodbye to Sango -who was currently waiting in line at a noodle vendor- before bounding off into the crowd.

In his many centuries of living he'd never been more bored, or irritated for that matter.

Not when his bastard hanyou of a half-brother was born.

Not when he had to attend meetings with other cardinal lords, more than four or five times his age.

Not even when demons became things of bedtime stories -that lived under you're bed and ate you if you misbehaved- and he was forced to give up his favourite past time. Killing and maiming of course.

Nothing.

No, thing, was worse then having to spend the day at a cosplay convention.

Surrounded by screeching teens, dressed in clashing colours that made his sharp eyes bleary and his head hurt. Never mind the smell of oils and waste. He'd known ningen weren't the most hygienic of races, but with them all packed into the building like sardines, it was almost overpowering.

His young neice tugged on his hand and he looked down at her coldly. The girl smiled up at him and pointed at a booth where rows and rows of stuffed animals were stacked on top of each other.

"May I go see the animals?"

He nodded his head sharply, and followed the tiny girl to the booth, hanging behind as she cuddled each and every plushie, paying special attention to a giant pink dog.

Degrading. Sesshoumaru mused, as he saw the cousins of his species mocked.

"Can I pwease, pwease, pwease, PWEASE have this one ojisan?!"

Rin's large brown eyes pleaded with him while her lower lip trembled. He let out a barely audible sigh as he pulled his wallet out of his tan slacks and handed bills over to the vendor, who smiled happily and commented on what a cute little girl Rin was.

He thanked her, before picking up Rin and her toy -newly dubbed fluffy- and carrying her over to where he could get her something to eat as she babbled away about all the professional cosplayers that they would see.

He bought her a small cone of her favourite blue bubblegum ice-cream and rested her on his slim hip so she had a hand to eat with.

In between licks she chattered about her idol, a famous cosplayer named Ka- something Higurashi. According to Rin she was the prettiest girl in the world, who had -and he quoted- 'the most prettiest bluest eyes ever, ever!'

Sesshoumaru listened to her as she praised the Higurashi woman over and over again, before quickly grabbing a seat in one of the front rows of plastic chairs to watch the costume contest with Rin.

Kagome quickly reapplied another coat of pink gloss to her plump lips and fluffed up her bright blue hair before placing a small hand on the leather whip at her hip. A spotlight shone the the small stage that she was behind, shrouded by thick inky black curtains waiting until her entrance.

'And now, one of our most esteemed and honoured guests, who agreed to make a special appearance today... KAGOME HIGURASHI!!'

She waited until the curtains had been drawn to the sides of the stage, before her intro song came on. Once the music began playing she took a deep breath, and walked out.

~!~~!~

The first thing he noticed wasn't her curvy body, her smooth skin, or her exquisite beauty.

It was her smile, the type of smile that made you fall in love - lips, teeth, sparkling eyes.

Even if all she could do was smile like that, she was perfect.

She continued to grin her Cheshire cat grin all through her long interview with the host on the stage. Her small frame looking even more petite next to the very large -that was putting it nicely- host's body.

He noticed many things about her in that interview -being the very perceptive Taiyoukai that he was.

One, was obviously that she was the most beautiful female he'd ever seen, and truly only on the cusp of maturity.

Two, was that Kagome -he'd also learned her name- could communicate four times as many feelings through one simple gesture than most could express with a thousand words.

Three, was Kagome had a smile for every emotion comprehendible. Coy, bold, sultry, kind, innocent, angry, ruthless, manipulative, flirty. And she seemed determined to show them every single one.

With emotions flitting across her face faster than he could read, all he could do was sit back and enjoy.

And oh, did he enjoy.
