Prologue- Top Five
There are a handful of things that make a woman’s Top Ten of things that she cares for the most in her life. Or for the ones like me Top Five. I don’t care about things. I like to let everything be as it will. Well almost everything. Number five is my friends. Crazy, stupid, and unfortunately funny friends that have a tendency of making me and my family and my dog go nuts. Fourthly, on the list is my house. My house is my sanctuary. My place of peace, that is till ether number five on the list comes over or number two. Then it becomes they’re place to wreck, sadly. My little home is located in the middle of nowhere. Where no one can say anything about me playing my music too loud in the middle of the night or for deciding that I want to mess around with my car or any other toy that needs fixing at five in the morning. No one can complain about my strange hours, because my nearest neighbor is three miles in either direction.
Third place goes to my beloved pooch, Mark Anthony. Yes, he is named after a Roman warrior who literally backstabbed his best friend in the senate, but to me naming my dog after him was not an easy choice. I needed a name that went with his personality perfectly. Julius Caesar didn’t even make it to the second round of name picking thoughts. Neither did any of the Gods from Greek or Viking mythology come to think of it. Anyways, back to my dog. He was a large American Pit-bull dog, solid white with light brown strips coursing through it with beautiful ice blue eyes that saw into your very soul. I had cropped his ears when he was a pup but left is tail long. To the average person he looked like something that would bite your hand off if you got close enough. He had a wide chest that gave his front paws a wide stance and an almost as big rear end that connected to a pair of thick hind legs that gave him the ability to out maneuver almost anything that got in his way. Yes, that was my boy, the man of my house.
Secondly was my beloved blessed family. My mother, who stood up for everything she believed in and still wasn’t afraid to bend me or any of my brothers over her knee and tan our hides. My dad with his drill Sergeant back-ground, and my retarded five older brothers. Dare, the oldest, Eric, Blake, Seth, and Lucas, the youngest of the boys. Then me, the last of Anderson kids, Kagome. And the first thing on my list of things that I love is my car. Sleek and shiny built just for me.
My car is the one thing that I know I can depend on. I should know I built the damn thing completely from scratch. It has the body of an old 1970’s Dodge Challenger, but under the hood was a new heart made by my own hands. My pride and joy isn’t built like all the other classic tough cars. No Draco’s engine was built for speed but with the plus of being a great fuel saver. Yeah, that’s right my car has a name, have a problem with it watch my wheels spin. Draco can run off of diesel or battery. His shiny silver black hood hides all the secrets. His plush dark gray leather interior invites as well as challenges any one to slide behind the will and take him for a spin. No one not even me can seem to resist the appeal he has to make you want to put the pedal to the floor and speed down a straight stretch of road.
Chapter 1- Sex Appeal
I stretched my arms above my head as a gentle warm breeze danced through the spacious backyard of my parents’ home making the hammock that I lay in sway slightly from side to side between the two large oaks that it was tied to. The warmth of the sun bled down thru the leaves, bathing me in its soft caresses. The sickingly sweet scent of honeysuckles filled the air along with traces of rose, jasmine and pine. Sounds of birds twittering away in the treetops above and the roar of the river not far down the hill filled what would have been otherwise a deafening silence. All of this calming serenity that I was enjoying to no end was disrupted by a blaring horn from the front yard. Startled by the unexpected sound I jerked up into a sitting position and immediately regretted it. The hammock began to twist and turn underneath me before unceremoniously depositing me face first in the dirt.
Growling to myself about how much I hated brothers I pushed myself up off the ground and stormed around the side of the house to the front yard just in time to see Blake getting out of his Candy Apple red 2011 Ford Mustang. His long chocolate brown hair was pulled back into a high ponytail that reached nearly to the center of his back like always. My mother used to beg him to cut his hair but he would always tell her no and even go as far as to beg her not to force him to sever ties with the overly long locks. His wide shoulders displayed complex Celtic knots that traveled the length of his arms and down his toned back, before he covered them up with a black button down shirt. He was unlike my other brothers, who strived to become prosperous business men; he was the wild child, like me.
When we were little, we were always getting into trouble. From sneaking out at night to fist fights on the playground. No matter what it was we were always at it together. He even took me to his senior prom. He told our parents that it was because he hadn’t wanted to deal with some of the girls that were going to be there, when the truth was that he just wanted to go with me because I had wanted to show up another girl at school.
“Kags!” Blake yelled rousing me from my thoughts, “Did you fall down the side of a mountain or something?”
His slightly crooked grin is as natural to me as his stupid teasing. Which, sadly, still drives me insane.
“What the hell do you think happened?” I growled as I stalked over to him ready to punch him.
His loving chocolate brown eyes twinkle with merriment as he glances past me and says, “Sesshou, meet the little spitfire known as my sister, Kagome.”
Turning quickly on my heels I come close to smashing my nose into said Sesshou’s chest. Tantalizing scents wavered off of him making me want to bury my nose in his muscular black covered chest. Fallowing the mouth watering line of muscle that was his neck I studied his angelic shaped face. Honey colored eyes glanced down at me with an almost careless look that made my blood boil before returning to my elder brother. Was I that unattractive? That all he could spare me more than just a slight glance.
“Hn,” He replied as he turned on his heels and walked over to a sleek black Yamaha FJR1300 Sport Touring Bike that had a custom made backpack strapped to the gas tank. His white silver hair fell down his back in a braid and tempted me to reach out and give it a hard yank to get a raise out of him, but I resisted. Turning back to Blake I arched one thinly shaped eyebrow in question. He just smiled slightly and shook his head as he mouth that he would tell me later. Nodding slightly in agreement, I turned gently on my heels away from him a second before I remembered what I had came to do then quickly spun on my unsuspecting brother and planted my right fist firmly in his gut. I couldn’t stop the grin that spread its way across my lips as he curled over and sank like a rock in a pond to the ground.
‘That had better teach him not to ruin my nap again,’ I thought as I strode up the front porch of my parents Victorian style house to tell Mama that her number one knuckle headed troublemaker had finally arrived and had brought company that had sex appeal.
