Not that Sesshomaru had dog ears in his human form but, if he did they would be folded back in irritation. He was walking after Kagome carrying her bags and looking around the glittering loud mall glad he wouldn’t have to come back for a while with her. This whole Christmas holiday he didn’t quite understand. The music coming from the stores was all the same and frustratingly, needlessly cheerful. Everything was decorated in various colors though mostly greens and reds despite the fact the pair of shades didn’t complement each other as far as he was concerned.
Kagome had slowed near one of the displays, several reindeer were set out, nine of them, four pairs of two and then a red nosed one at the front. They were running down a small hill of sorts with the head reindeer starting to take off into flight from the ground.
“See, those are Santa’s reindeer and he’ll be sitting there taking picture with children whenever his break is over.” She said, pointing at the sleigh area and the line of tiny humans waiting to see the large fat man he’d seen earlier dressed in red and white.
“If he has to fly around the planet tonight, don’t you think it’s a waste of his time to be sitting in your mall?” The demon was still taking things Kagome told him a little seriously.
Kagome laughed. “Well, he’s just one of Santa’s workers here to get what the children want and he reports it back to the North Pole.”
“I see.” Sesshomaru nodded. “That is efficient then.”
Kagome giggled again, the idea of the Demon Lord of the West believing in Santa Claus gave her a strange kick. He was looking it over seriously as if searching for more things to point out problems with, he often had the habit of pointed out how demons could make things better. They’d had whole conversations as to how silly the Easter Bunny was. Musing silently as to the demon lord’s serious contemplation of Santa she wasn’t prepared for his next question. She sputtered, spitting a bit of her hot chocolate and coughing as she’d half choked on her swallow at his next question.
“Why’s the lead reindeer drunk?” Sesshomaru asked with a neutral tone as he observed the strange mortal display, glancing back to Kagome in concern as she started to laugh while coughing.
