A/N: A little treat while I’m in transition with other stories making outlines and writing them. This is a songfic that’s based using the song A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. Amazing Song!
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Kagome stood on the roof of her apartment building staring out over the city wondering what it was that made her so undesirable. She walked towards the ledge and sat against it wondering what it is that made her so easy to cheat on. Her third boyfriend within the past three years; she fell in love with all of them, and all of them broke her heart. She lost track of how many times she sat on her best friend, Sesshomaru, crying her heart out. Yet this time she couldn’t go to him, not when the person who broke her heart was his younger half-brother. They had just started to finally get along, so she definitely couldn’t ruin his new friendship with his brother.
As she finally reached the ledge she leaned against it, she heard the roof access door swing open. She turned around to see Sesshomaru standing just in the threshold. The wind picked up and whipped her long onyx locks into her face, obscuring her view for a moment before she brushed it out of the way. “Sesshomaru,” she whispered as he took a step towards the ledge.
Heartbeats fast
Colors and Promises
How to be brave
How can I fall when I’m afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow
One Step Closer
“Why didn’t you tell me,” Sesshomaru said, just barely onto the roof. Kagome quickly composed herself and stood up from her slouched position.
“What do you mean Sess? I tell you everything, what could I possibly be keeping from you,” Kagome said, her azure eyes looking up into his honey colored ones.
“About the whelp, just because he’s my half-brother does not mean you cannot come to me Kagome. I will protect you from anything that threatens or has hurt you. The whelp confessed Kagome.” Kagome watched his eyes as he spoke, noticing the hurt that was written across them- even though his face remained impassive. She had no idea her not confiding in him would hurt him this bad.
“I’m sorry,” Kagome said, hanging her head down. Sesshomaru growled low before taking a step closer to Kagome.
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don’t be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more
I can’t believe I hurt him by not confiding in him. I just didn’t want to cause a problem, looks like I caused one anyway. I can’t do anything right. Kagome thought resting her head on her knees. She started when Sesshomaru touched her shoulder with his hand. She looked up to see him looking down at her, his mask finally dropped.
She stared at his face mesmerized. Without the cold façade he looked angelic. His honey colored eyes turning amber in the setting sun, his hair turning from its usual silver to a red hue, he looked ethereal and he was leaving her breathless. She’d always like Sesshomaru, but he’d always dated women so much more beautiful than her, and after his wife and her best friend Kagura died giving birth to Kanna and Rin, he didn’t date at all.
Sesshomaru stared down at Kagome, her wide blue expressive eyes and her onyx locks shaping her pale face. Kagura had always been afraid of Kagome, no matter what. And when she died she told him that she knew while he married her she knew he loved Kagome. She wished him well and told him I love you one last time. He had never acted on his feelings because he thought that’s what she wished. However, he was done doing that. It had been two years since Kagura, and he is tired of watching her get hurt.
Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What’s standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to this
One step closer
“Kagome,” he said softly, lowering himself to the rooftop to sit with her. “I wasn’t upset that you didn’t come to me. I’m upset because I’ve sat back and watched you be hurt since high school. Kagome, I’ve loved you for a long time, and while I had loved Kagura, both of us knew I loved her in a companion friendship way. After the girls were born we planned on splitting, but she died. For that I’m sorry because she’ll never get to find who she really loved and was meant for, yet she wished me well and told me to never let you go.”
Kagome stared in awe at Sesshomaru. She’d never heard him talk so much, than what he was saying sunk in. He was in love with her! This didn’t’ make sense though. She wasn’t his type, but a small spark of hope bloomed in her chest and she searched his face looking for any lies.
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don’t be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more
Seeing her searching, he decided to prove what he said and grabbed her chin and pulled her in for a kiss. He watched as her eyes widened in shock before drifting closed and kissing him back. His own eyes closed as his other hand wound its way into her hair, reveling in how it felt to finally be kissing Kagome.
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more
Kagome felt herself sinking into the kiss, her arms coming to wind around his back. She felt herself mold to Sesshomaru. She prayed that she wasn’t dreaming because this was feeling really good. Soon she felt Sesshomaru pull back and her eyes fluttered open to look at him. He stood up and held his hands down to help her up. She accepted and he pulled her into his embrace.
Kagome took in the smell of him, and enjoyed the warmth of his embrace. Here in this moment everything felt perfect, and she was slowly realizing that he did reciprocate her feelings.
One step closer
One step closer
“Come,” Sesshomaru said finally pulling back from his hold on Kagome. He took her hand and led her back to the entrance to the roof. They entered into the building just as the sun was setting. “Kagome, I promise, I will never hurt you. I will love you till the end of my days. But for now let’s go order some food and have dinner at my place. The girls are craving some pizza.”
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don’t be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more
Two years later brought Sesshomaru standing at the front of a church, watching as his two baby girls spread flowers down the aisle, and the love of his wife walk slowly down with her grandfather. They were having a small intimate wedding, but that didn’t stop the swell in his chest at seeing her in her wedding gown, smiling at him, her blue eyes shining.
Within the next year Sesshomaru stood outside of another birthing room, Kanna and Rin on either side of him, nerves taking over. The last time he was here he lost Kagura, he was hoping he wasn’t going to lose Kagome too.
“Papa, it’ll be otay, Rin knows so,” a five year old Rin smiled up at her him, showing her teeth- some missing some there. He gave a gentle smile down at his two girls. The doctor then came out and allowed the small family to see their newest member; a baby boy.
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I love you for a thousand more
“Sesshomaru, what are you doing out here, you know what the doctor said,” Kagome scolded from the porch of their cottage in a rural part of town. She looked at her mate once again tending to his garden.
“I’m healthy Koi. Do not fret. Besides, we have lived a long and prosperous life. Kanna and Rin have pups of their own, Bakura has his own mate, Shippo is doing fine on his own. I think he’s mated someone but just won’t tell us.”
Kagome smiled at her mate and held out a hand to him. Slowly he took it and they walked inside, “I love you.” They laid down for a nap and both passed in their sleep holding onto one another. As their spirits left and were reincarnated they stayed together fitting each other, loving each other till the end of time.
