BLANKET DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN INUYASHA!

Chapter 1: Savior

Kagome sat in the meadow meditating. It was a nice day out. They had defeated Naraku two years prior and everyone had found a companion. Inuyasha had Shiori and Sango had Miroku. Shippo was off training. She had finished her training last year. The breeze was soothing as it swept through her long midnight locks. She was wearing the traditional miko attire and her bow and arrows lay beside her.  She snapped out of meditation when she felt three demons heading her way. Two of them were young and they were being chased by the third. Kagome stood and readied her bow and strung an arrow. They burst through the clearing. The two young ones were Inus. The third was a giant bear demon. She fired her arrow and the bear demon was purified. She looked towards the small Inus. They came up to her waist. One of them was injured. She took a step toward them and the uninjured one growled at her. She noticed they had markings similar to Sesshomaru. They must be his, she thought. She set her bow and arrows on the ground and tried again. She held out her hand and the Inu stopped growling and sniffed. It let her near the other one. She looked at the wound. She felt Sesshomaru speed into the clearing and right over to them and he immediately growled at her. Kagome knew he was just being protective. “Pipe it down, Sesshomaru! I can help her.” She began to glow and placed a hand over the wound. The pup wouldn’t survive much longer if she didn’t. Kagome closed her eyes and concentrated. It only took her a few moments to heal the wound and then the pup was breathing normally. She opened her eyes and moved her hand. She looked up at Sesshomaru. “There. She will be just fine now.” Kagome stood and grabbed her bow and arrows and made her way back to the middle of the clearing. She sat down and began her meditation anew.

“Miko, what are you doing out here?”

Kagome sighed. “Why do you always insist on calling me ‘miko’ instead of my name?”

Sesshomaru sighed. She did save his daughter after all. “What are you doing out here, Kagome?”

“I am meditating.”

“Why are you not with my younger brother?”

“I don’t want to be around him. He has found someone and I took my rightful place as a miko in the village.”

“You have never been one for taking on big roles. Why now?”

“I enjoy helping others. You know this, Sesshomaru. I have helped you a few times.”

“And yet you ask for nothing in return. Why is that?”

Kagome could see she wasn’t going to get to meditate any time soon if this kept up. “My reward is seeing people live peacefully and without fear. Are you done playing twenty questions?”

Sesshomaru looked down at his pups and saw they were exhausted. “May I join you in meditation?”

Kagome saw no harm in it. “As you wish.” She felt something placed in her lap. She opened her eyes and looked down. His daughter curled into her. She raised an eyebrow and looked at him for an explanation.

“She has been having nightmares as of late and nothing I do puts her at ease. You have a soothing presence.”

Kagome understood. She had had to do the same thing with Rin when she was still alive. Kagome closed her eyes and expanded her aura over the four of them. It calmed the three demons considerably. The two younger ones fell asleep. His daughter was in her lap and his son had placed his head on her thigh next to his sister’s head. Kagome fell into a deep trance.

Sesshomaru forced himself out of meditation after an hour had passed. He looked at the miko and his pups. He focused mainly on his daughter and noticed that she was finally getting a fitful rest. Ever since their mother had passed away, neither of them had been sleeping well. He hadn’t mated their mother, but he had been in need of an heir. He had found her and she agreed to it. He loved his pups, but he had no idea what to do now. He supposed he should ask the miko to come with. She was the only one that had been able to put the pups so at ease. He had tried other mikos, but none of them were quite like Kagome. They were not pure of mind and soul like Kagome. They were tainted by prejudice. Yes, he would ask the miko to come back with him and his pups.
