Chapter 1: Sent Home
Kagome walked the countryside still rather upset. Inuyasha had gone to see Kikyo again, and right after he had told her that he had chosen her! Kagome was through putting up with this over and over again. The jewel was complete, so all she had to do was make the wish and then she could be done with all of this. Just one messily wish and everything would be done. Her duty would be fulfilled and she would have no more obligations. Not that she considered anything an obligation here. Her duty to the jewel maybe, but surely nothing else. Right? She knew what wish to make, it had come to her a couple days ago, and now she was going to make it. She sensed the strong demonic aura come to a stop in the trees. She had come to know this aura quite well before the final battle. “Is there anything you need, Lord Sesshomaru?”
“Why are you not with my brother and the rest of his pack?”
“Inuyasha is busy at the moment and my friends went to rebuild the slayer’s village. As for me? It is time for me to put everything to rest and end the search for the Shikon no Tama. It is time for the wish to be made. I will most likely be sent home.”
Sesshomaru nodded. Though he preferred this island country to that of the mainland. He was sure that she did to, so how would she be forced home?
Kagome closed her eyes and focused on her powers. A miniature tornado formed around her and lifted her into the air. The sands of time gathered and the jewel lifted into the air and a bright pink light flashed and everything went black for Kagome.
Sesshomaru watched with hidden surprise as his brother’s miko was raised into the air by raw power and he had to look away at the flash of a bright pink light. When the light was gone he looked back and there was no trace of either the miko or the jewel. He was certain that he had scented magic, but there wasn’t a hint of it in the air. Such a strange ningen onna.
(-^_^-)
Kagome woke up in the bottom of the well. The jewel was gone and she had been sent home. She climbed out of the well and exited the well house. She decided it would be best if she finished high school at the very least. She could then take over the family shrine after words.

Kagome did just that and she even finished at the top of her class. It had been a week since graduation and everyone else had gone their own way. Her friends had gone to college and her family had moved into a rather large town house. Kagome had received an email from Hojo asking her to meet him at his new diner. Hojo had always dreamed of owning a diner, so he had done just that with help from his family. She walked through the front door, and she saw telltale long silver hair in the kitchen. Hojo had told her to meet him in his office, which was conveniently behind the kitchen. She opened the door and had to bring a hand up to her mouth to keep from laughing. There stood Sesshomaru preparing for a day of work. She couldn’t help it she had to say something. “Now, I wonder what the Sesshomaru from five hundred years ago would do if he saw you like this?”
Sesshomaru had heard enough of that type of stuff from his brother, but as he listened to the voice, he noticed it was feminine and familiar. He turned around, ready to say something to the effect that he didn’t need to be reminded all the time, but those words died as soon as he saw whom it was. “Miko?”
Kagome giggled. “Five hundred years and you still won’t use my name.” Kagome looked at her watch. It was time to see what Hojo wanted whether she really wanted to or not. “Well, I have to go talk to Hojo. He wanted to tell me something. Maybe we can talk later?” He nodded and she proceeded past him to the door labeled ‘office’. She knocked and heard Hojo tell her to come in. He sounded as cheerful as ever. She opened the door and froze. She knew it was around lunchtime, but this was ridiculous. He had set up a romantic dinner for two. She really hoped that he had asked her here for an opinion and not the other option. “Need an opinion, Hojo? It looks fantastic! I am sure she will like it.”
Hojo smiled. “I’m sure she will, since she just said she did.”
Kagome gave him an apologetic smile. “Hojo, you’re a nice guy, but all I want is to be friends. Nothing more.” Hojo gave her a sad smile. “Perhaps we can spend time together as friends another way. I will see you later.” She backed out of his office and he followed her. She heard Inuyasha and he was arguing with Sesshomaru. She walked over to them. “Sit.” She never did take the beads off. He face planted.
Inuyasha pulled himself off the floor and looked up into familiar sapphire blue eyes. “Kagome!” He pulled her into a big hug. “I’ve been meaning to come see you, but I am busy keeping asswhole over here out of trouble.”
“I see. Well, I run the family shrine now. Grandpa, Mom, and Souta all moved out into a town house. I have the place all to myself.”
“Great! I might have to bring Sesshomaru along though. If that’s okay?”
Kagome smiled. “That would be fine. Where are you two staying anyways?”
Inuyasha’s face fell and Sesshomaru decided that he would be point blank as always. “Since we cannot seem to hold a job, we are in cardboard boxes.”
Kagome shook her head. “You are both welcome at the shrine. It’s only me and Buyo anyways.”
Inuyasha smiled at that and looked at his brother. “See! I told you she wouldn’t leave us to rot!”
Kagome feigned hurt. “I didn’t know that I was a terrible person!” Inuyasha started to tell her that she was not a terrible person and she laughed. He was so easy!
“Why are you laughing?”
“I really thought by now that you could tell when I was lying!” Inuyasha just crossed his arms and huffed. Sesshomaru actually laughed and everyone turned to look at him. He never laughed and it was a known fact. Sesshomaru stopped laughing and smiled at Kagome.
“I shall enjoy sharing living space if you can keep this up, Miko.”
Kagome sighed. Would he ever use her name? Probably not.
Hojo watched the entire exchange. How did Kagome know these two? Did she know that they were demons? He grabbed her arm and pulled her over. “Kagome! These two are demons! Are you really sure you want them living with you?”
Sesshomaru chuckled as he came over and tugged Kagome towards him. “The miko knows exactly who and what we are. She even knows a bit of our past.”
Hojo bristled. “Stop calling her ‘miko’! There are no such things as mikos! They are a myth!”
Kagome felt a tear slip and she closed her eyes and Inuyasha pulled her into a hug. She opened her eyes and looked at Hojo. “You are saying that I do not exist.”
Hojo scoffed. “Of course you exist, Kagome. You are standing right there.”
Kagome pushed away from Inuyasha and stepped towards Hojo. She held up her hands and formed a pink energy ball with her powers. “If mikos don’t exist, then what am I doing here?”
Hojo watched as the two demons backed away from his friend. Their eyes were trained on the pink ball. Mikos did exist and he had hurt her by saying that they were just a myth. “Kagome—”
She let her powers retreat and held up a hand. “Don’t.” She turned and walked to the door. “Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, I shall expect you at home when you are finished working.” She heard them both say ok and she walked out the door.
