Prologue-
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away was an island that was full of lush green grass, and tall trees, for this island was not inhibited. It was a protected island by the kingdom. On this island, grew a special flower that was gifted to the island from the moon. This flower was a legend, it was said to be able to cure anything, and even keep a person young. One day, a young woman was visiting this island and stumbled upon this precious flower and saw it for the treasure that it was and what it offered. She vowed to guard it and keep it a secret from the world. Soon, the woman began to grow old, her long black hair was turning grey and speckles of old age were appearing on her hands. Scared, she found a scroll that listed a song that told her what to do to use the flower to cure her aging. It told her to sing a song.
She went to the flower that night in an attempt to use the song and see if it worked. “Flower gleam and glow. Let your powers shine. Bring back what once was mine. Bring back what once was mine,” she sang as she stroked the flower. A silver glow surrounded the woman before leaving her young and beautiful again. The scroll was right! It had made her young again! Thrilled, the woman placed a basked on top of the flower, and whenever she would grow old looking, she would go sing to the flower.
Meanwhile, in the kingdom that protected the island, the king Inu no Taisho and, his wife, Aiko, were announcing their expectance of their first child. The whole kingdom was in a celebration. Until the queen became sick after going out to the market and touching a rusted nail on accident. The doctors tried everything. They tried herbs, potions, and spells. But nothing worked. The king was devastated. He was losing his wife and his heir. Then one day, someone told him of the legend of the flower from the moon.
After hearing the story, a spark of hope gleamed to life in the king. He quickly ordered his men to go search and find this precious flower. The men quickly left for the island and traversed it in its entirety looking for the flower. They had vowed not to rest until the found the flower.
Meanwhile, the woman had just placed her basked back over the flower when she heard the guards. Knowing of their quest for her precious flower, she quickly got up and fled the scene, accidentally knocking the basket over in her haste. The flower gleamed in the moonlight attracting the guards. They quickly unburied it, and took it back to their lord and lady. The woman watched in horror as her lifeline was taken away, and took to following the soldiers.
When the soldiers reached the keep, they gave the flower to the doctors who made it into a tea that healed the lady. Soon after, the queen gave birth to the heir of the lands. A strapping baby boy, with big honey colored eyes and a tuft of silver hair gleaming on top of his head.
After allowing their son to grow for a few months, they presented him to the kingdom, and announced their heir to be named, Sesshomaru. That night, the castle was warm so the windows were left open. This allowed the woman to slip into the castle. She sang the son as she grabbed some of his hair. As the effects started making her young, she cut a piece off of his head, gripping it in her hands. However, once the hair was severed, the spell stopped. Her old wrinkled hands appeared again, and the baby’s hair turned black. Angered, she stood for a minute pondering what to do. She was not about to be separated from her treasure again.
While she stood there, a yell sounded out that there was an intruder in the castle. Making up her mind, she opened up the basket she had brought with her and tucked the baby inside. She climbed back down the lattice, and ran off into the forest. Suddenly, the doors barged open and the king and his men entered, but they were too late. The babe was gone. He ordered a search party, while he and his queen stood devastated. Eighteen have passed since that time, and this is where our story begins.
