I agree with you on all points in your review. Kagome I believe is more powerful than Miroku.

He and the boys just don't know how much more, which is the cause for much anxiety, since many of her allies are youkai and or hanyou. So an untrained 'explosion' of Kagome's powers, however untentional, would cause grievous harm to her allies, especially during a fight with Naraku.

As I established in Chapter 10 - The Shikon Miko Is Not Defenseless, when Kagome singes Kouga, that she can cause terrible burns, despite not meaning too.

Miroku and his cohorts want to protect themselves as much as her, but for now Kagome is a very real danger. If she baulks in a fight she could inadvertantly decimate their numbers without even trying.

They want her to be able to use her abilities with conscious effort, directing her attacks purposefully instead of unconsciously. Especially in stressful situations.
