The iridescent glow of the Tama was the only light amongst the darkness of the new moon sky. Victory had been claimed and happy endings had been secured but the darkness and grim reminders of their dark fates would forever linger in their minds. Battle was a dark truth, necessary in some cases and unnecessary in others; but always the reason why innocents lost their chances of survival. They had known the risks involved with the battle and chose to take all of them in the desire to see one great wrong being rightened. But everything never worked out the way they had intended, loves and lives had been lost.
Some mourned, some forgiven and some ever existent.
“Would you like her to be alive?” Kagome’s hoarse voice, tired and rough after the long day of fighting, broke the deathly silence between them. The inu lord looked up from his occupied pastime, something that was starting to become a habit as of late.
“Maybe!”
Kagome bit her lips. His eyes were so dull whenever he gazed at something of hers. She had noticed it was becoming a habit on his part.
“Maybe if I wished it on the jewel?”
“No!”
“The jewel would disappear, it would be a selfless wish on my part.” The silence weighed down on her. Maybe she was doing this the wrong way. Still it was important, his obsession with her had continued to grow as steadily as death had claimed her.
“She would not want to be alive, not like this.”
“What about you? You miss her for God’s sake, she may have been so much more to you given the time.” Another bout of silence. Kagome fumed, the silence did nothing to soothe her rage.
“I know what she had desired.” Finally she conceded. He looked up at her finally and his amber eyes was arrested by the hues of pink the jewel was emitting, softening her face, making her look timeless, ethereal, the corners of his eyes brightened.
“She has wanted to be free.”
“So she had always demanded.”
“No, you do not understand.” Kagome shook her head furiously, looking down at the cursed jewel held in between her palms. “She came to me, after her death.”
Sesshomaru’s eyes widened. “Explain!” he demanded.
Kagome looked at him and held his shocked countenance for a while and then she clarified unhurriedly, “She was there, like the wind, whispering.” Kagome shivered as if the words haunted her, even when spoken in her memory. “I wish to be with him at least for once, I want to be with Sesshomaru-sama.”
“She... said that?” Sesshomaru could not believe his ears. “Why did you never mention such to me?” He accused her, his brows wrinkled.
“I was unsure.” The silence stretched again.
“Will you be gone?” The question came out of nowhere, ”After the wish is made?”
“Yes.”
“I see!”
“Will I ever see you again?”
“Maybe. If you outlive the five hundred years?” She all but laughed.
“Will you be there at the end?” His eyes misted over, only partially.
“Yes, always. I am your home.”
“So am I!” His hands squeezed her. The warmth of his palm enveloped her frigid and scarred determination. It gave her strength and peace. Then she closed her eyes and folded the Shikon within her palms, the warmth of his hand giving her the courage she had needed. The wish was spoken in silence, the words soft and only audible to his ears.
The wish was made, the wind picked around them and the scent of the surroundings changed. The white feather that was held in between Sesshomaru’s claws flew out of his hand and mixed with the swirling whirlpool of the localised windy gale.
“She might be human.” With her amused smile, the hand that had been placed on her, for her comfort and filled with warmth was removed and Kagome felt something closing around her heart. The spot beside her which had been occupied by his sturdy form was suddenly empty and the place that had been beside her had become vacant without a warning. Kagome felt tears pricking her eyes, a watery smile on her face, she watched as he rushed towards the destination, the swirling mass of wind traveled towards, following it, seeking it. Then the darkness of the night was lifted, the glow of the jewel gone with the vanishing of the object and the blue magic of time and space replacing its glory. In a breathe, Kagome disappeared.
A/n: Oh no, why did this made me tear up? Honeslty Kagura's death has always been a very soft spot for me and so has been her relation with Sess. I am about to play with the idea though.
