Stuck
Night falls, the inky blackness punctured by a generous scattering of twinkling stars and the crickets’ crisp chirping song. It's early fall but the heat lingers in the air, only the occasional cool breeze a telltale sign of the inevitable change of the seasons. Kagome looks forward to it. She’d never been one for the sapping heat, especially in her early years before she replaced her affordable synthetic uniform with more breathable – and functional – pieces. But as she stands on the outskirts of Inuyasha’s forest, a breeze mussing her hair, she feels at peace.
It's short lived.
A pulse of familiar energy skitters along her senses. “Turn back, Kagome” , the same refrain she tells herself every week.
The crunch of grass and wood underfoot becomes clearer, more distinct and recognizable. The lumbering dragon breaks through the treeline and spots her almost immediately. The huff of air and grunt of recognition before she crosses the distance and gives a gentle but firm patting is their standard greeting. A pulse of energy, almost irritated, shoots out and Kagome and the dragon huff.
“Someone’s impatient.” Ah Un hoists her onto their back, ensuring she's settled and has full grasp of the reins before they shoot up into the sky, eager to cover ground.
The journey is always longer than she likes, an hour or so. Kagome often tried to meditate on these trips, ridding her brain of all thought before her eventual arrival, but they're long treks and there's plenty of time for her to sip and savor the usual emotional cocktail of dread, obligation, exhilaration, and annoyance. By the time they land, she’d be drunk on it, all the previous noise in her head now indiscernible tv static.
She takes in her surroundings as they land. Tonight’s setting was an inn, and a very quiet one from what she could tell. Another insistent brush against her aura and she slides from the dragon’s back, patting his rump, before making her way in. Empty, she thought, his preferred kind of lodging. The inn was a modest one, in a quiet area for travelers looking for a bit of rest and decent sake. It wasn’t particularly spacious or ornate. It was, however, noticeably absent of staff and guests, only a handful of lamps lit to guide her way. It wouldn’t have surprised her if he paid to have it for the night, a small price to pay for privacy.
And discretion, her brain helpfully chimed in.
It doesn't pay to dwell on that niggling thought now that she's here. She makes her way up the stairs, a kind of zen-like stillness overtaking her as her nerve endings feel like they're melting and fusing together.
She doesn’t bother to announce her arrival, he’s been tracking her since she left the forest. She slides the screen open and shuts it with a snap behind her.
Alabaster skin, luminous in candlelight. Delicate, silver strands pooled around his trim body, shoulders and chest bare as his haori hangs limply off him revealing inch after inch of skin – soft and firm. A clawed hand fists around and pumps his hungry, hard member. She never quite got used to his beauty.
With a slow pull of his pipe, sweet smoke fills the room.
“You’ve kept this one waiting, miko” She couldn't say the same about his one-liners. Kagome rolls her eyes and dropps her bag. The same words that would have reduced her to a wet and quivering mess in front of him no longer shook her. Kagome would have thought herself entirely immune except for the fact that she kept showing up week after week. Somehow the miko from the future found herself on a hamster wheel she logically knew how to get off but somehow just couldn’t.
A year and a half in she knew every inch of his body, every way he wanted her to touch it, and every word that set him aflame, and yet the chasm between them never felt more impassible. She's going mad.
It’s not too late to leave and never come back
Just say goodbye after this
Lie and say you’ve met someone
You don’t actually need a reason to tell him to fuck off, Kagome. A gem from Eri, who had received a distilled version of events over drinks.
Every excuse lined up on the tip of her tongue, ready to spill forth and set them both free of the prison they created.
Let’s not be dramatic, Kagome.
It's a thin line between frustration and longing. She leaves each encounter feeling unlike herself – something less human and more intangible. She knows in her heart that something needs to change soon.
“Miko,” he all but purrs “come show this Sesshoumaru how good you take care of him”
I’ll end it tomorrow.
And with a huff, she quickly shrugs out of her clothes and does just that.
