Kagome looked out over the empty clearing that just a few hours ago was filled with pale moonlight. The well stood silent and out of place in the beauty of the forest. She sighed. ‘This is the last time I will ever see this side of the well.’ She reached up to her throat to finger the pale smooth surface of the Shikon jewel. ‘So much pain and loss follows this tiny glowing jewel. Kikyo died because of it, Inuyasha was pinned to the sacred tree for fifty years.’ Kagome felt the prickle of tears start in her eyes.
I see dark clouds out my window
I know the storm is coming any minute
And the thunder just confirms my fears
And I know the tears are in there
I’ll be crying unable to stop
Look here come the very first drop
“Inuyasha why did you have to go? I miss you.” She sighed heavily. Inuyasha had fought bravely and had tried to love her but in the end he had been bound to Kikyo’s side. Kagome was sad but she understood. He had pulled her close and pressed his lips against hers for a moment. Silently she had watched as he followed after Kikyo. He turned once to look back at her and mouthed “I love you.” Kagome had wrapped her arms around her self to keep out the biting loneliness. “Good bye.” She whispered. Turning her back as the tears began to fall.
‘Cuz everytime it rains
I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you…I taste you
I cannot forget
Everytime it rains …I get wet
Sesshomaru stood at the edge of the trees watching the beautiful miko as she cried silently. He had come to find Inuyasha and tell him that a new evil had risen and that Kagome was in danger. Instead he found the miko clutching the Tetsaigua to her heart tears streaming down her cheeks. His heart ached. He had been in love with her since he’d first seen her. But because she was human he refused to acknowledge his feelings, at least that’s what he told himself.
Kagome walked silently towards the well. Sitting on the edge she let the tears fall. Everyone she loved had one by one left or been taken away. Sango and Miroku had died in each others arms just after Kohaku removed the jewel shard. They had been distracted by the act and Naraku had taken the opportunity. The Kitsune had been next to fall, trying to block an attack aimed at Kagome. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru had fought valiantly each defending Kagome as she purified Naraku’s soul.
Lightening flicked a cross the sky. Illuminating everything in its eerie light. The black clouds hung heavy with the impending rain. Kagome jumped a little at the thunder. She turned and looked at the figure standing in the trees. “Wait.” Sesshomaru said catching her wrist as she fell backwards. Kagome blinked at the gentleness in his voice. He lifted her out of the well to stand in front of him. Sesshomaru ran his hand through the silky mane of ebony hair. She opened her mouth to speak. He placed his claw to her lips. “I love you.” He whispered as he lifted her into his arms and kissed her with all the passion he had contained for so long. After the kiss he set her back down and let his hands fall from her shoulders. Startled she stepped back the edge of the well tripping her as she fell he reached out for her hand but she faded from his view. “Good bye.” Her voice echoed softly in the empty well. The rain began to fall.
Months passed and life began to feel normal again. Kagome passed the high school entrance exams and was looking forward to the new school year. For a change she cut her hair and got a new wardrobe. As she walked out of the store she caught a flash of crimson and silver. Her heart lurched but when she turned to look she stood in the middle of the crowded street. She closed her eyes, but the face that came to mind was different than that of Inuyasha, instead it was the face of Sesshomaru.
Darling I am still in love with you
As time passes by it just intensifies
I know I’ll never be with you again
I’ll never find another with that kindness in his eyes
I’ll be trying unable to stop
Look here comes the very first drop
Kagome shook her head, ever since he had kissed her she couldn’t think of anything else. She shivered and headed for the coffee shop around the corner. The gray clouds made her remember everything from that day. She sighed and ordered her self some hot coffee. ‘Sesshomaru.’ Kagome had tried going back through the well but it refused to transport her back. ‘But you knew it was a one way trip…’ she reminded herself sipping her coffee. Rain splattered on the large glass window.
Cuz every time it rains
I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you…I taste you
I cannot forget
Every time it rains …I get wet
She leaned her head against the cool glass letting the memories flood her mind. ‘Sesshomaru.’ Kagome gathered up her shopping bags and her umbrella leaving a tip on the table. ‘Oh well, too late now.’ A single tear slipped down her cheek, a warning of the torrent she knew all too well would follow. The sun peeked through the clouds as she walked alone down the street towards the train station.
On sunny days I’m alright
I walk in the light
And I try not to think about
The love I live without
“Excuse me.” A deep voice drawled as she bumped into something. A slender hand grasped her waist as to prevent her from falling. She looked up and blinked ‘golden eyes?’ She looked again and they were deep brown. She sighed as the rain began to pour down soaking them to the bone. “Thank you.” Kagome mumbled trying to pull away from his grip. He tilted his head as though memorizing her face but he didn’t let her go. ‘Remember me.’ He begged silently with his eyes. Again they were golden. Kagome blinked but it didn’t change. “Who are you?” Kagome asked quietly transfixed by the golden eyes. “Someone who loves you.” He drawled as he lowered his head to look deeper into her eyes. ‘Silver hair?’ Kagome mused.
Cuz everytime it rains
I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you…I taste you
I cannot forget
Everytime it rains …I get wet
“Sesshomaru!” Kagome whispered as she leaned up on her toes and kissed him. The torrent of tears spilled unheeded from her eyes. “Kagome, I found you.” He said huskily holding her close.
