As he flew overhead his heart broke when he heard her call from below.

"Onee-san!"

It was meant as a joke, to annoy the hanyou, one he failed to grasp.

He found her later in a clearing. Stopping at the edge he watched her reaction when she turned and saw him.

Running to him she ran a soft hand across his markings, confusion tainting her eyes when he remained stiff under her caress, his eyes so flat.

"You chose him."

Kagome shook her head.

"A joke. It will always be you."

His lips claimed hers as his heart soared.
