When They Died by dkeysdanie

Then They Died

  Prologue I Think

Let me Know if I should continue this

Midnight fires washed the land into misty ash and twilight sorrows drenched with the blood of many broken hearts. Bodies strewn across the grass, decaying into the shadows to become the dust of the world once more. A scene that would make many shed a tear, never looked so beautiful as a backdrop to the priestess standing among the gore and slaughter as souls flittered in pale orbs to the starry heavens.

The battle won, many lost to the winds of this turning world…….

She did not cry, did not beg death to take her away in its arms when all of her friends were dead. She pushed all the pain deep inside when she glimpsed the pale strands of hair bathed in red. She kept breathing, gave her all to keep going ahead and keep praying for the dead. Her clothing torn and hair loose about shaking shoulders, she walked and walked with jewel grasped tightly in her hand. Every sole  body she came to she fell to her knees and offered a prayer into the plumes of smoke twirling in the dance of the wind.

A bitter sweet child in the throes of a gossamer web, she sifted through the valley keeping darkness at bay. Tragedy sweetly chimed lullaby to the Shikons steady pulse. Hushing away the screams of the dying and hypnotizing her soul into the glow of soft pink. Her lips twisting into the cruelest of smiles, losing focus on the tragic reality surrounding her like a storm.

‘Make a wish…. Tell me your hearts desire’

And she did wish with all she could! The jewel broke into a thousand pieces, spreading itself far across the earth in a rainbow of stardust. She watched dazzled, tears pricking the corners of her eyes at such awesome beauty despite the sea of blood at her feet. She let the tears fall, each a crystal catching rifts of moonlight and shattering.

’They are all dead and your alone’ A cold voice threaded through her mind and finally broke the illusion she had carelessly built. The rain came ad broke free of the weeping clouds as her heart breaks even more while her nightmares surface.

Just as she is about to fall into insanity, a steady had draws her into strong arms. Lifting her in the sky and never letting her look back on the massacre of her friends. Her face presses to the armor covering his chest and she sobs….
