The Purchase

Sesshoumaru heard the front door slam shut and knew Kagome was home. His wife had an odd penchant for getting up way too early (in his opinion) and going out to antique shops, flea markets, and garage sales in search of the “perfect” decorations. He rolled his eyes at the thought. Not that they didn’t have enough money for her to go just about anywhere in the city and buy the “perfect” decorations. Granted, the woman had found a couple of great deals. Just last week she had purchased a tasteful tapestry for less than five dollars that he had seen in the windows of some high end shop.

He sat back in his desk chair, rubbing his eyes to adjust them to his surroundings as they had been glued to a computer screen the entirety of Kagome’s shopping trip. He could hear her as she began her way up the stairs, already knowing where she would find her husband. Sesshoumaru knew she would want to show him her newest “perfections.”

He looked up as Kagome burst into the room, a large bag clasped tightly in her right hand. Sesshoumaru noted the rip in the bag, and the wooden frame that peeked out.

“Must be a picture.” He thought as Kagome propped the bag against the wall and walked around the desk to properly greet her husband. A quick peck on his cheek and she found her way, excitedly, Sesshoumaru noted, back to the bag on the floor.

Sesshoumaru couldn’t help but smirk at her antics.

“I found the cutest pictures for our bedroom!” she exclaimed, missing the roll of Sesshoumaru’s eyes as her back was turned. He could hear the rustling of the bag as Kagome withdrew two framed pictured.

“They just matched so well, I couldn’t pick just one. There is this adorable little shop on Fourth Street called “Dokuga’s Collectibles.” The owner game me both of these for the price of one.” She was so proud of herself as she propped the pictures on the leather couch across from Sesshoumaru’s desk so he could see them properly.

Each picture had a single woman on it; the background of each was comprised of a single color. In the first picture, the woman, who was respectfully posed, was clothed in what appeared to be a dress that consisted of his family crest, which was odd enough. The tie at her waist was a vibrant yellow with blue markings. He also noted that her long ears and short, stubbed tail marked her as a member of the Hare clan. It was tastefully done, and a simple name adorned the edge. Sesshoumaru shifted slightly closer in his seat in an attempt to read what was scratched into the parchment. Naomi.

Sesshoumaru turned his attention to the other picture his wife had felt compelled to buy. The back ground on this one was darker in color, and the female depicted was sitting, her elbow propped up on her knee, instead of standing as in the other one. This woman had long, slightly curled black hair and a rose pin in her hair. Her clothing, black pants and a deep purplish-rouge appeared to be more for fighting than traditional as the other picture. Her calves and forearms were wrapped and her facial markings as well as her tail and ears revealed her as kitsune descent. The tattoo on her shoulder though, black and striking as it was, remained a mystery to Sesshoumaru. The name at the bottom read Rose was only partially visible- the first half of the name was scratched out.

He sighed as he sat back in his chair.

“I suppose they are aesthetic enough to be hung in the house, where do you want them?” he asked, crossing his hands across his broad chest.

Kagome hesitated only momentarily as she thought, “I was thinking they would look great in our bedroom.”

Sesshoumaru nodded in approval and shut off his computer, making to stand up.

‘I’ll have Jaken enlist the help of some of the others tomorrow; they can put them where you see fit.” He said as he walked around the desk, making his way towards the door. Now that his wife was home, he wanted to spend some time with her. Kagome smiled as she gave a small nod, following him out the door.

The pictures can stay here over night. Kagome thought as she turned off the light and shut the study door, following after her husband in haste.

With nothing but the natural light streaming through the window, it was hard to tell, but it seemed as if the smiles intensified on the pictures and two feminine giggles permeated the empty room, then there was silence once more.
