It’s short and sweet – It’s base on the Japanese Kitsune Folks Tale

The Lord of the western land had to admit to himself he had been bored and lonely for the past 80 years.  When it had first started, he had taken in the Kappa, thinking it would make a great chew toy and/or distraction but had soon found out just how annoying the little imp was... Add to the facts that the little green thing didn’t seem to get a hint that he was no longer welcome made the darn suijin even more bothersome.

Then had come the little girl. She, on the other hand, had filled up a gaping hole in his soul he hadn’t even known was there until she came along and although she was easier to tolerate, Rin still didn’t hit the right spot.

The Lord’s lonesomeness was becoming more and more like an itch he couldn’t scratch – maddening to the point of death.

Sitting in the moor, one evening, Sesshomaru was contemplating his dire need for the ideal mate.  He had been searching high and low for her and yet had found that none of the bitches he had met fitted the description perfectly.

It was then he heard the most beautiful sound and smelled the most exquisite perfume he had ever had the benefice to in his very long lifetime. There, standing in front of him, a young woman with black as night, silky and shiny, hair, the bluest eyes he had ever seen, and that voluptuous body that made his mouth water. He just knew she was perfect!

The lord courted her and mated her and they lived happy until the birth of their first son. As a gift, from the Lord of the east, a dog, but a pup at that time, was delivered to him. Oh what a joyous time they would have with the dog! He thought, but his mate wasn’t so happy about the gift and she let him know.

On the first night, the Lady of the West pleaded with her mate to give away the dog before it was too late, but the Lord would have none of her foolish game.  The dog was but a pup, he would grow strong and resilient, would protect the family, he said before ordering her to sleep. Seeing she would not win this battle, she let it go, and time went by.

The more the dog grew the more it became hostile towards her.  One night, before bed, she begged and pleaded again with her husband but this time it was to kill the dog she begged for.  It would kill her she said and their sons would be left motherless. But again the Lord would have none of it.  The lady was acting foolishly around the dog, surely it would not attack her for no reason, he said, before turning his back on his wife.

As the attacks of the dog on the Lady grew more and more dangerous, she slowly lost courage until one of the attacks almost killed her. For the first in many years, she returned to her fox shape, leaping over the far wall and fled into the forest, leaving behind her mate and her sons.

Consume by grief at losing his mate, the Lord of the Western land went in search for her. Years passed before he found her but when he did he said the one thing that he could say to her.   “You may be a fox, my dear, my mate, my Kagome, but you are the mother of my sons and I will always love you. Come back when you please, you will always be welcome.”

The next night, a long hair beauty visited his chamber and slept in his arms; Loving the Lord like he had never been love before. The morning come , the fox strutted away only to return to next night in the form of a woman.

Because Kagome returned to her mate each night in the form of a woman and left each morning in the form of a Fox she was called Kitsune.
