“Finally, we would like to call to the stage, a young woman who is an inspiration to us all. Not only is she top of her class, but she did this all while battle a severe case of pneumonia. I would like to call forward the class valedictorian, Kagome Higurashi!”

Kagome couldn’t help the blush that plastered it’s self across her face as she climbed her way to the podium. Everything seemed to be a threat to embarrass her tonight. From her annoyingly long robe to the classy black heels she had bought just for tonight, a fall was the last thing she wanted right now. She took a deep as she came to a stop and stood at the podium. The lights were glaring and she could barely see the crowd in front of her.

“Ahem,” she unfolded her little scraps of paper that she had relentlessly folded into as tiny piece as possible before continuing.

“My father once told me, it doesn’t take a great person to do great things, but it takes a person with courage. A person with heart, someone willing to push and see things to the end, my father was a great man.  And so is everyone in this room tonight. We struggled each semester, braving insane teachers,” she paused and sent a glance to the woman to her left and heard the crowd start laughing. “Endless exams and worst of all, thesis papers but we did it. We’ve completed that final step to achieving our goals. There’s nothing stopping us now, so go out there and be the greatest people that you can be. For myself, there are a few people that I would like to thank, the people that helped me get through this year even when I thought all was lost, Mom, Souta, Sango, Miroku and the man that held my hand through it all, Inu Yasha. Thank you. I can express how grateful I am to you all. So before I start crying and mess up my face that Sango worked so hard on, let’s party!”

Kagome exhaled the longest breath of her life as she turned and started her way down while the crowd cheered. Just as she got to the edge of the lights she felt her foot catch on the obnoxious robe and before she could react she felt herself falling backwards. The squeak came before the impact, at least that’s what would have happened. She felt a firm hand grab hers and pull her back into the concealing shadows. Her heart was pounding as she finally righted herself and plastered a smile over her face. But her rescuer wasn’t who she thought it would be.

“Where’s Inu Yasha?”

“What, no thank you?” Miroku smiled.

“Thank you Miroku.” She smiled and reached up to huge him.

“Kagome you were perfect.” Sango added from her right.

“Yup, couldn’t have done it better myself.”

“I’m sure you couldn’t Souta.” She said as she rubbed his head affectionately.

She glanced at her teary eyed mom who simply nodded and smiled as they started along the grassy field with the other graduates. They made it to the small reception before she finally asked again.

“Where’s Inu Yasha?”

“Hmm, I’m not sure. I think I saw him go to the bathroom.” Sango answered.

“Hm.” She felt the irritation climbing up her legs like an insects but took a deep breath to calm herself. “How long has he been gone?”

“Uh,” Sango paused and looked at the ground nervously.

“Sango, tell me.”

“Well about 10 minutes before you went on.”

She couldn’t stop the irritation this time. She clenched her fists as she swirled and started walking back out towards the field.

“Kagome I’m sure he’s a good reason!” she heard Sango yell behind her but she ignored it as she continued against the crowd. She finally pushed her way through the stragglers and walked across the now empty field. The bathrooms where to the left and he better be lying in a pool of his own body fluids to have missed her go up. Kagome paused at the door of the men’s bathroom and listened before she pushed the door open and went in.

“You better have a hell of a- ” she didn’t finish, the place was empty and she couldn’t sense his presence anywhere. More irritated she walked back along the field to the crowd and saw a worried Sango standing just outside.

“Did you find him?”

“No i was hoping he had came back here.” She said a little puzzled.

“No he didn’t.” Sango said a little worried. “I’ll help you find him.”

“Ok.”

Kagome walked back along the field and looked around for any sign of him but there wasn’t any. They walked back to the bathroom and checked each stall then check around the stage but still no results.

“Maybe he’s in college?” Sango suggested.

“No way.”

He couldn’t be. Not when she had the biggest speech of her life. Kagome paused for a minute before she started heading towards the side door. She pulled the door open and waited for Sango to go in before closing it behind them. They started down the hallway before she stopped.

“What?” Sango asked.

“I sense him, this way.” She stared running along the corridor. His aura felt strange but familiar. Something was wrong, she just couldn’t tell what. She paused at an intersection then turned right along the hallway, it was getting closing. She could practically see the demonic aura through the wall as she stopped in front of the empty class room. Sango came to a stop behind her as she turned the knob and pushed open the door.

“Oh my god.”

She heard Sango besides her but everything seemed to stop registering into her brain. She started with the basic so she could start putting it all together. Inu Yasha, her boyfriend since high school, was naked in a class room screwing another girl.

“Kagome!” his voice pierced her thoughts and she blushed before turning and leaving the room. She heard the door close behind her but didn’t turn to see who did it. Her legs started moving though, she just didn’t know in what direction. Her body and mind seemed blissfully unattached as she floated down the hallway.

She didn’t know how long she stayed like that but when she finally came to she was back in the empty class room with an unconscious Inu Yasha lying in a pile of broken desks and chairs. She felt the tugging and turned to see Sango pulling her along the hallway. She didn’t have to say anything, the shock and anger was written well across her face.
