He asked her out in the beginning of spring, in a cool tone, hiding the small nervousness he felt for fear of her rejection.
She had blushed, smiled sweetly, and said yes.
The few friends he associated with whistled when they found out, and gave their approval.
Her friends gave her worried looks, but accepted it; she was happy.
He took her to dinner and a movie for their first date. She surprised him by not wanting to go to a sappy chick flick.
She often found him in quiet places, away from all the noise of the university. He liked to meditate, and she was happy to spend time with him like that.
He was drawn to her scent. It was alluring, a fine heady mixture of purity and moon blossoms with the freshness of rain. It had been her scent that first attracted him, then her personality. While he rarely showed public displays of affection; he could never resist dipping his head to nuzzle and take in her wonderful smell.
She was a creature that enjoyed touch; she hugged friends and family, and she liked to lean against him. He would take her dainty hand within his own and hold it. She always gave him a heart-stopping warm smile for it.
She gave him a book on the history of the feudal eras after noticing his interest in the ancient swords and other items her families shrine grounds held. He silently appreciated it and out on a casual picnic date, they poured over the contents.
Her laughter was addictive to listen to, and she was ridiculously ticklish. Even though she protested and squirmed madly against his assault, her melodious laughter never stopped.
He was notoriously known to be stiff about his appearance. It wasn't completely about his vanity, he disliked looking rumpled. So when he stood frozen after being hit with some sort of slime from his so called friends as a joke, he listened to her scold them viciously before she gently began to clean his face and hair, helping him back to his perfect appearance. She liked the way he looked too.
She liked to wear skirts, and dresses. He would glared at the sight of other males ogling her pretty bare legs, but when she turned to him, concerned, he brought her into his arms possessively, and told her she was beautiful. Her blush and smiling kiss was enough.
He protected her, a scathing glare to some girl who called her ugly out of jealousy, and a well dealt punch to an asshole who coped a feel while leering. No one was allowed to make her sad.
Their first fight, she had tears in her expressive eyes, and she swore at him. He refused to let her go and held her until she fell into sleep, before apologizing profusely, unknowing she was still awake and listening.
They went on a camping trip, in the night by the fire, he laid his head on her thigh and listened in half asleep state as she sang softly.
She was an expressive person with a fiery nature. He enjoyed seeing her riled, and often did so, just to kiss her to silence.
He had a dry sense of humour, and often used sarcasm. Many thought she was insane to actually like his humour, but they didn't know that she could gently tease him, and he would play along and tease her back when they were alone.
She never cared about his wealth. In fact she often protested his spending any large amount of money on her behalf. It had annoyed him, and intrigued him that she would find something as simple as flower picked from a garden would bring her more joy then a sapphire necklace. He became skilled at compromising with her when their anniversary came around.
He had never been one to play, or indulge in fun time. But he found it was remarkably easy to relax and follow after her in a game of tag, listening to her soft giggles. She knew very well she was pulling the strings of his instincts when she ran away from him, silently inviting him to give chase, to pounce, to catch his prey.
She often gave him kisses. Small, light chaste kisses. To his cheek, jaw, shoulder or chest. She was affectionate like that with him, and he could only reciprocate, giving her back those same small light chaste kisses to her cheek, nose, and forehead in fondness. More often, he would just kiss her, because he could. Because he wanted to. Because he liked to.
He was much taller than her. It surprised him the first time he saw her in one of his shirts; it dwarfed her tiny slender form, but he decided he liked it when she gave him an uncertain look and blush. It became a common sight to see her wearing something from his closet when they were alone.
She knew he had a sadistic side, privately enjoying her friends reactions to his behaviour. Her favourite memory was when he picked her up, and despite her small scream and struggles as he pretended to throw her into a pool they were at, her friends were staring at his playfulness with open mouths. They didn't understand just how different he was with her.
He knew just how innocent she was. And it endeared her all the more to him. He never pushed her into anything she didn't want, content to go slow and allow her to take the next step. So when she invited him to her emptied dorm room for dinner, and later shyly, but boldly guided him to her room, he showed her how much he treasured her decision.
Her mother and brother loved him. He was unfailingly polite with her mother, and would play soccer with her brother when begged. Her grandfather had been sceptical, but opened up when he expressed interest in the old relics of the shrine.
His mother had been cool, at first, but slowly came around after she had stated she wasn't going to leave his side. His half-brother, when finally and reluctantly introduced had given her a long look, then nodded with a grunt, gruffly welcoming her to the family.
He had heard her soft confession first, while lying together at his place, curled together. At the time he had merely pressed a kiss to her brow and tightened his hold on her petite form, while coming to an important decision.
"Sesshomaru?"
The confusion in her voice had him smiling faintly as they came to a pause. He looked down at her, taking in the silver dress she wore out that night, the way she had her long hair down just the way he liked it, and the blindfold covering half her beautiful face.
"Are you ready?" He murmured.
A smile curved her lips upwards and a hint of laughter entered her voice. "For a while now, I don't know why all the secrecy..." She trailed off as the blindfold came off and she opened her eyes and looked around.
Her brow furrowed as a frown came over her delicate features. She didn't recognize the building they stood before. Her head tilted; it was a beautiful place, having been built with ancient and modern designs in mind. But...who owned it?
"Sesshomaru?" She murmured, turning to him, only to freeze. He stood, stunning in his black suit, hair pulled into a neat ponytail and regarded her with his golden gaze, all while holding out a small velvet box in his hand.
Eyes widening, she looked at the diamond ring, her lips parting in silent shock, before looking up at him.
"This would be ours, if you accept. This one would be honoured to take you, as wife, and mate." He rumbled lowly, watching her carefully.
Though shocked, she gave a trembling smile, pressing her hand to her lips briefly, before she inhaled shakily and gave a small laugh, recognizing the similar wording he had used when first asking her to be his girlfriend. Tears in her eyes, she stepped forwards and gave him a sweet, loving smile. "Yes."
Slowly, he smiled, and taking her hand, slipped the ring on to her third finger. "You know I love you," he told her quietly, drawing her firmly against his body and brushing his lips over her own.
"I know." She whispered. "I love you too."

A bit of fluff :) This was written late at night when my daughter refused to sleep. It was also to help with the bit of writers block I have for Curse and other stories. It helped...some. I haven't given up yet though, but the updates may yet still be a while in coming. Having no internet sucks :(
