Invisibly bound
A/N) I'm still a beginner at this fanfic writing this so be nice. In this story, Kagome is already a youkai/miko. Inuyasha disappears one night and Kagome follows, only to find him........er.........mating with Kikyou. In need of some way to vent anger, Kagome gathers her things and sets off on her own towards a Shikon shard she senses somewhere in the forests. This only leads to one of Naroku's traps, But it appears she will not be alone in this prison.
*Keade's Hut*
Kagome stared vacantly at the low ceiling. It had been hours sense the sun had gone down, but she still couldn't sleep. Inuyasha had seemed distracted and unusually quiet all day and just before sunset, he disappeared into the forest. Kagome hadn't seen him sense then and began to worry for his safety.
Shippou lay curled up in Kagome's sleeping bag and she gave him a gentle hug, trying to comfort herself from her worries. Shippou, feeling himself being moved and squished, woke up.
He was about to make about to request that Kagome stop flattening his body when he picked up a familiar scent and stiffened.
"Kagome," Shippou whispered, "I smell Inuyasha, but his scent is.........different. It's coming from the forest." Kagome's eyes widened as she stared are the open sliding door. She could sense no demon aura and could hear nothing out of the ordinary.
Not wanting to alarm the kitsue farther, she smiled down at him and gave him another hug. "Don't worry about it right now." She whispered into his ear as he settled down and slowly drifted off to sleep.
She waited a little longer in her half-sitting, half-laying position to ensure the young demons' sleep, then quietly and smoothly slid out of her sleeping bag, walking over to her large yellow backpack, her long, black-tipped silver tail trailing behind her.
She shivered slightly as she made her way across the polished, wooden floor. It was an autumn night and the air was frosty.
Kagome grabbed a pair of jeans and a sweater, than quickly changed clothes, not wanting to venture outside in pjs. Once dressed in warmer apparel, she strapped her arrows and backpack on and headed out the door, scooping up her bow as she passed it.
The moon was out and hardly a cloud was in the sky to mar its brilliant light. Kagome smiled at the beautiful scene before her.
The valley was covered by a thin layer of frost and the trees had a frail, sparkling beauty to them as well. Her smile quickly faded away as she remembered her self appointed task before her.
She turned and headed towards the bone eaters well, figuring that was the best place to start looking for the missing hanyou.
"Why am I a full blooded youkai and I'm still slower than Inuyasha?" She asked the air vacantly.
It was true, Kagome had been turned into a demon a week ago when one of Naroku's attacks backfired.
Inuyasha was surprised to say the least to watch the smoke clear and find a youkai version of Kagome standing before him.
He had been in shock sense then and the idea never crossed his mind of actually helping Kagome adjust to her new body with flying or fighting lessons.
So here she was, trudging out in the middle of the night with absolutely no way to protect herself as she searched for a friend without a clue of where to start.
In a few minutes, she had reacted the well and began searching the surrounding forest. Kagome was about to call it quits and leave when she spotted something glowing in the distant trees.
Her eyes filled with wonder and curiosity as she jogged toward the moving light.
She got about 10 yards from the object before she could make out what it was. It was one of Kikyou's soul snatchers.
Kagome felt a unknown yet familiar presence in her, warning her of some unseen pain laying at the end of her search, but she pushed the feeling aside, hoping it was just concern for Inu-yasha welling inside of her instead of fear.
The flying dragon/snake demon led her to a cave entrance and disappeared into the cave's glowing depths, daring the young miko to follow.
Kagome could see and feel the warm heat admitting from the cave, but couldn't see its source because the cave hallway slanted sharply to the right and out of view.
Kagome stiffened as she picked up familiar smells trailing out of the cave. A heavy smell of rotting plants and mildew indicating Kikyou's presence mingled with the smell of Inu-yasha floated out of the cave. There was also the mushy smell of love making in the cave and was making Kagome's stomach churn. Kagome tried to think of any other explanation than the obvious, but common sense prevailed. Her eyes clouded over with salty tears and sadness, but she quickly brushed it away and set her face in an emotionless tone. She felt like her heart had just been torn out and betrayed. Not wanting any more of this torture on her heart, Kagome turned away from the mouth of the cave and towards the forest. She didn't know where she'd go, but she couldn't go face Inu-yasha tomorrow. He had made his choice and that meant Kikyou would be the one by his side, not Kagome. His decision meant to cut Kagome out of his life forever and reinstall Kikyou in the emotional hole Kagome left. She was on her own now.
Off in the shadows, a lone figure watched as the young time traveler found her goal and lost something even more precious in a few minutes.
The dark hanyou smirked evilly. "So, Inu-yasha." Naroku spoke quietly to the air, "you will have just made a choice that will destroy your pitiful existence from the inside out." The sadist Halfling watched as the female before him turned and headed silently into the forest, the faint salty smell of tears was the only thing that lingered of her scent.
"Now my pet, lets play with you some and I think I have the perfect way to do so."
He smiled again at the thought.
This would be his revenge for Inu-yasha stealing his former miko.
If all went accordingly, Inu-yasha would lose Kagome for good, for she would be with another. Another trick he was contemplating was taking away Kagome's memory of Inu-yasha for extra pain on Inu-yasha's part.
Yes, this would be his sweet revenge.
Naroku faded off into the shadows, laughing darkly as he went to set the stage for his trap.
