Tempted to Love Again by LadyTigresa
Prologue
Kagome looks up hoping to see the clear blue sky of the Feudal Era, but all she saw was the ceiling of the shrine. Her heart beats rapidly in her chest as she climbs back up the ladder, hoping it will work the second time. She jumps back into the well, only to land hard onto the ground.
Kagome starts to dig into the dirt, hoping it would open. Tears stream down her face as she digs deeper, why isn't the well working? They were not done searching for the jewel shards! Inu Yasha defeated Naraku, but there were still shards left!
She stops digging and sobs hysterically. He finally gathered enough courage to tell her he loved her, saying that he would not go to hell with Kikyo, but stay here with her.
She looks at the nearly completed Jewel. She needed around three more shards before Inu Yasha could make his wish.
She stands up and wipes the tears from her angelic face. She will try again and again, the well will open up for her. She just has to keep trying.

"Kagome! Its time to get up."
Her mother opens the curtains in Kagome's room, letting sunlight enter the dark room. She then grabs her daughter's covers and pulls them away, revealing Kagome in her pink and blue pajamas. She mumbles incoherently and reaches for her blanket, only to grab at air. She opens her dark brown eyes to see her mother looking down at her, a frown marring her features.
"Do you know what day it is Kagome?"
"Sunday?" Kagome asks.
Mrs. Higurashi sighs and crosses her arms. "Its Monday, your first day of high school You have a fifteen minutes to get ready."
Kagome sits upright in her bed and looks at the time. She leaps off her bed and runs into the bathroom screaming, "Why didn't you wake me up mom?"
"I thought you were up already sweetheart. I heard you alarm go off an half an hour ago."
Kagome comes back out with her toothbrush in her mouth and searches frantically for her uniform, not caring that she was only in her white bra and panties. "I didn't hear it! Have you seen my- oh thanks."
She grabs her blue and white uniform from her mother's hands, putting them on quickly. Mrs. Higurashi shakes her head disapprovingly at her daughter and heads out of her room. "Breakfast will be set on the table when you're ready."
Kagome nods and grabs her hairbrush, taking the knots in her raven hair roughly. She grabs her school bag and runs downstairs, nearly trampling her cat Buyo. Her grandfather comes out of his room nearly bumping into her.
"Kagome, no running in the house!"
"Sorry grandpa!" She jumps off the last stair and quickly walks into the kitchen. Her brother Souta was already there, munching on toast. She sits down next to him and sighs.
"I don't want to go to high school."
Souta laughs, his voice muffled by his food. "You missed lots of last year Kagome, and you studied too hard to get to this one."
Kagome grimaces as pieces of toast flies her way. "So? I still didn't get good enough grades to go to this other one that is much better than Trinity High."
"Well you tried."
He goes right into her face and opens his mouth wide. Kagome shrieks and jumps out of her chair.
"You can be so annoying sometimes, so you know that?"
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
"No"
"Yes!"
"Ow! Did you have to pinch me Kagome? That hurts."
Mrs. Higurashi comes in and pulls them both away from each other throats. "That's enough from the both of you! Kagome it's not nice of you to pinch your brother. Souta do not annoy your sister. Now the both of you hurry up so you can get to school on time."
Kaogme rolls her eyes and kisses her mom on the cheek. She walks by Souta and ruffles his hair, earning a scowl. She walks out the door and waves goodbye before leaving. Souta grumbles about annoying sisters and leaves the kitchen to get his bag. Mrs. Higurashi sighs and starts clearing the table. 'Hopefully going back to school will get Kagome's mind out of the gutter.'
Kagome looks into the shrine mournfully. It has been two months since the well closed up. She drops her bag onto the ground and walks slowly down the steps, staring intently at the covered well. Her grandfather and Souta boarded it up when Kagome nearly broke her neck the last time she jumped in there. She nearly screams when she hears a low voice behind her.
"You shouldn't be here Kagome. What if your mother catches you here?"
She turns to look at her grandfather, tears welling up in her eyes. He walks up to her and rests a hand on her shoulder.
"But what if it works this time grandpa? I could go back and see Inu Yasha and finish jewel hunting and-"
"Kagome, you know this will not happen, it has been to long. Maybe your purpose there was done. Defeating Naraku was all you needed to do."
She drops her head, letting her raven hair cover her face. "How can that be all? I am the guardian of the Shikon no Tama and it isn't even complete. There are still shards to find. How can Inu Yasha find them without me? What about Shippo, who will take care of him?"
He shakes his head. "You are from here Kagome, not the past. This is where you belong. You must try to forget about the others, you still have many years ahead of you and thinking about the past will not help you. Now hurry to school, you don't want to be late for your first day."
Kagome sniffs loudly and gets up. "Your right, I don't want Eri to wait too long for me. Thanks grandpa, for everything." She hugs him tightly and leaves the shrine, not knowing that she has a new adventure ahead of her
