Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1

"Where are you Sessh..." Standing outside a restaurant at the corner of a street was no other than twenty-five year old, Kagome Higurashi. She was wearing a long overcoat and gloves to protect her from the December air as she waited for her boyfriend, Sesshomaru Takahashi.

For the eighth time in the hour that she was there, she looked at her watch, and debated whether or not to stay and wait, "He said that he would be here at nine o'clock... and it is all ready ten thirty."

Looking quite disappointed, she began to walk away to go on home, 'This is the ninth time that he stood me up... what's the point anymore?'

Kagome and Sesshomaru dated ever sense she was but eighteen and he twenty-one. Kagome was Inuyasha Takahashi, Sesshomaru's younger half brother, were and still are best friends. And when Inuyasha asked her over to his house so that he could have a tutor helping him with his studies, her heart just stopped at the sight of his brother.

'Love at first sight... yea right." Kagome was now only five blocks away from her apartment building when she looked up.

After getting to know Sesshomaru, she quickly realized how high and mighty Sesshomaru thought he was, and had the pleasure of informing him of exactly what she really thought about him.

Kagome then began to smile at the memory when she had said that she thought he looked a lot like a girl... he just glared at her; and two weeks after that moment he took her out to dinner.

When she looked up, she realized that she had arrived at the steps of her apartment building, and when she unlocked the door, she walked in.

'Tell me Sesshomaru... what do you think about love?'

'That it is an emotion, and that is all.'

They had that conversation two weeks ago; she just wanted to know whether or not he loved her as much as she loved him.

Beginning to walk up the flight of stairs to her bedroom, she recalled a conversation her and Inuyasha had two years ago...

'Inuyasha, do you think Sessh loves me?'

'In all honesty Kag? No.'

After he said that, she guessed that she had a hurt look on her face because he said that it was only in his opinion, and that he doesn't know Sesshomaru as well as he should... but now she was wondering whether or not she knew him any more.

Pulling out her keys, she unlocked her door, and walked in.

Checking the answer machine she saw that she had one message waiting for her. Pushing down on the button she began to peel off her gloves, and froze when she heard his voice coming from the electrical appliance:

"Kagome, I am working late at the office again today. I won't be able to take you out for dinner tonight. But I will see you tomorrow. Goodbye."

The loud beep came on; assuring her that he was done speaking.

Sesshomaru was a big shot business tycoon, and could be held up at work sometimes, but she knew that if he wanted to, he could just hand some of the load off to his vice presidents and have all the time to do anything he wished, even spend time with her.

Before when they were first dating, he would ask her out every chance he got, but after six years, he began to seem like he was ignoring her more and more.

With that thought in mind, Kagome came to a decision about her seven-year relationship with Sesshomaru Takahashi...

The next day, Sesshomaru was sitting at his desk signing some papers when his phone rang.

"Sesshomaru Takahashi." His voice was at its usual monotone.

"Hello Sessh."

His face automatically softened at the sound of Kagome's voice.

"Hello Kagome."

There was a pause before she spoke again, "Sessh, can we have a cup of coffee at lunch?"

Sesshomaru looked first at his digital clock on his desk then at his calendar of all of his appointments for the day, "Of course, I'll come and pick-"

"No, no don't I'll meet you at the café that we go to."

"That is fine."

The uncomfortable silence was quite disconcerting for Sesshomaru and he was about to say something about it then she quickly said goodbye and hung up the phone.

Ten minutes later, Sesshomaru found that he couldn't work, so he looked at the clock.

'I'll leave in ten minutes.'

Suddenly he heard a beeping noise and automatically pushed the button on his intercom.

"Mr. Takahashi, Mr. Onigumo is here to see you."

Sesshomaru considered whether or not to tell his secretary that he was busy and that he was just leaving for lunch, but decided that whatever the bastard had to say was possibly important. After all, lunch started at twelve, he had two hours.

"Send him in."

'He didn't show up again...'

Kagome then began to look at her watch and sighed as she took another sip out of her cappuccino.

'It's one thirty!'

With that she stood up and threw her cup away in the trash and walked out.
