Something Sexy About the Rain by kiltykat

Chapter One

Chapter One

"Damn it! It's raining again!" Kagome groaned as she stepped outside of her apartment into the steadily falling rain.

"This is the fifth time this week!" She cursed her luck as she ran out into the street, soaking her clothes. She sighed as she got into her car, wringing out her hair, before heading off for school. She pulled out onto the road and traveled on the, oh so familiar, path to the place she considered hell. She leaned on her hand propped up against her door and crept into the confines of her thoughts.

'Man... How long has it been huh? Five years? That's a long time, how's everybody holding up?'

She bit her lip as she fought back the tears that constantly threatened to spill. She shouldn't be acting like this! She was a big girl and it happened so long ago, she'd practically forgotten about it. Though she had a few scars that were constant reminders. She didn't belong there, they knew that, and she knew that. It was just that... she wanted to belong there. She needed to belong there, because, God knows she didn't belong here. Not here in this world of lying cheating, stealing bastards she dared call people.

"Shit!" She swore as she had to curve to avoid hitting a truck in front of her. She ignored the honking of cars behind her as she pulled over her car and sat there and just sobbed. How many times would she have to go through near-death experiences to realize that thinking about the past did nothing?

"Damn the rain." She mumbled to herself, as she wiped her eyes as she got a hold of herself. It wasn't that she didn't like the rain or anything, because she did, it's just that... the rain brings up so many unwanted memories.

*Flashback*

"Hey Kagome!"

Kagome looked up from her perch on the lip of the well and smiled at Inuyasha. She was excited because they had just recently defeated Naraku and she had decided to stay with him. It was so cloudy out today! Her smile faded when she noticed he wasn't looking at her though.

"Inuyasha what's-"

"We don't want you here..."

Kagome's eyes widened at the cruel sound of his voice, she bent her head to try and look at him, but his bangs got in the way.

"W-what? Inuyasha..."

"Go home Kagome. We don't want you here."

Kagome felt her eyes water, and she stood up shakily and stepped towards Inuyasha.

"But I thought... that me and you..."

Kagome took another step towards Inuyasha and stretched out her hand trying to touch him. She felt the tears streaming down her cheeks and fought the urge to wipe them away. When she reached him she put her arms around him, and felt her heart break when she felt him stiffen.

"Why Inuyasha? Don't you want to be with me anymore?"

Her voice came out strangled and broken, but she still got it out. She felt him untangle her arms from his neck and step away. He shook his head slowly and turned away.

"Go away Kagome, I don't want you here."

She stepped back one foot and shook her head wildly, trying to hold on something, but finding nothing to grasp. She felt her stomach clench into a fist and twist over and over again.

"You... You don't mean that!" She screamed as she put her hand up to her heart. She toppled to the ground on her knees and sobbed as a big fat raindrop plopped down on her head, soon to be followed by many more. She looked up into the face of the one she loved, and whispered.

"You don't... do you?"

Inuyasha slowly walked over to her and bent down on one knee to look her in the face. She turned away, embarrassed by her tears, only to have him grab her chin and force her to look at him.

"You can't be here with me Kagome."

He stood up and held out his hand to help her up. She took it, after a while, and turned away from him. They both began to head towards the well, the well that would separate them... forever. She put one foot on the lip and then turned.

"Can I have... one more hug?"

Inuyasha moved towards her and she opened her arms, smiling for all the world to see. But when he reached her, he placed his hands on her shoulders... and pushed. She saw him standing above her as she fell into the well, eyes wide and tears springing forth.

"I love you... Kagome."

And then the magic took control.

Kagome sniffled and then sucked in a deep breath a nodded. Today was the last day to think about that. The last day for worthless tears and for regretting the past. Tomorrow... she would move on, and today wouldn't exsist. She smiled at her thoughts. She knew she was lying to herself, she could never forget. She closed her eyes, and there he was, rain pouring down his face, whispering, "I love you... Kagome." He'd ALWAYS be there! He'd always be saying, I love you. And everytime, it'd always break her a little more. But that couldn't be helped, and she gripped the steering wheel a little harder and headed back on that same familiar path to the same place she'd been going to in the first place. Today was tomorrow, it always would be. And tomorrow was always the past. And each day she'd travel the lonely familiar path, and she'd think. The windshield wipers swept away another wave of rain as she pulled into the school parking lot. College, oh how she hated it. She got out and quickly headed towards the entrance, where she spotted her friends waving at her. She pasted on a smile and ran up to them.

"Hey Kagome! Beautiful day huh?"

"Yeah, it's beautiful."

"Maybe tomorrow will be better yeah?"

Kagome smiled and shook her head at her friends questioning, yet smiling faces.

"No... it'll be just like today."
