Memories of Immortality by Anime Yume
Prologue
It was the first night of spring. The scents of Sakura blossoms were permeating the air up in a place called Tengoku, which is the equivalent of heaven, where gods and goddesses lived. A sudden sharp cry of a baby cut through the air.
"Congratulations, King Higurashi! Your queen has given birth to a daughter!" A midwife named Kaede said happily. She wiped the blood and other fluids off of the baby carefully, and placed her into a clean blanket. She then took the newborn baby and handed her over to the king. The baby was crying her little heart out, and the king was immediately saddened. He tried to make funny noises, and make funny faces, but his efforts were in vain. The baby just cried harder.
"Okaa-san! How are you feeling? Are you all right? Aw... my little sister is so cute!" A 10 year old girl excitedly ran in. Her name was Rika, and she was one of the many daughters of the king.
"Otou-san, what would her name be?" Rika inquired curiously. "Why is she crying so loud?" She shouted.
"I don't know!" The king yelled desperately. Then, suddenly the cries ceased. The king was really surprised. "Wha... What happened? Ouch!" The baby was laughing. She was pulling his hair with her tiny little fists. Suddenly, a beam of blue light appeared in the fists, and instantly, the hair the little girl had been holding disappeared. In fact, ALL of King Higurashi's hair disappeared instantly. Rika fell over in laughter.
The king growled. "This isn't funny... Kaede, do you know how to treat this... thing?" The baby started to cry again, since she no longer had anything to play with.
The queen was coming to. She heard the cries of her little baby, and said in a hoarse voice, "Let... me... hold her..." Kaede took the crying baby from the bewildered king's arms and put her into the queens.
"What will we name this little cutie?" The queen wondered aloud.
"I don't know." The king growled again.
"What happened to you?" The queen peered at her husband. When she saw his bald head, she instantly fainted. The baby stopped crying for a minute, and started to laugh. Rika, having witnessed all this, shook her head in bewilderment. This little imouto is going to be a handful... she thought.
The next day, the king awoke on his bed. His queen was sleeping peacefully beside him. He got up and reached for his hairbrush, only to realize that he was now bald, courtesy of his precious new addition to the family. Suddenly feeling exhausted, he crawled back into bed. He played with his wife's hair a little, when she stirred.
"I don't suppose you know a spell to get my hair back, do you?" Was the first thing he said. The queen, barely awake, muttered a spell and instantly, his lush black locks were restored.
"Ah... I am very grateful dear. So, what do you suppose we name this little troublemaker?" He joked.
"I don't know... I think that this name should be different from the other ones. Not after a flower, no, I just can't imagine our little baby named after a flower. Sakura was named after a flower... turns out she was allergic to the blossoms, our poor girl." The queen mused.
"Hm... not a boy's name since she's a girl..." The king said thoughtfully.
"Um... how about Brianna?" The queen asked.
"No... too modern..." The king frowned.
"Tsuwyna?" The queen asked again.
"Hm... maybe..." The king said. "I know! How about Kagome?"
"Dear, you're a genius!" The queen said, as the king kissed her lightly on the forehead.
And so, the little goddess Kagome was born.
