It Takes Two

Episode 1-- Separated

27 year old Kagome Higurashi rubbed her eyes. She had stared at the design pattern long enough tonight. Nothing was coming to her. Glancing up she looked at the clock resting on the mantel above the marble fire place. It was a quarter after midnight.

She was looking forward to going back to Japan tomorrow. Her daughter Tsuki would get to spend time her grandmother and her uncle Souta. It had been a long time since Kagome had left Tokyo for the United States. She had taken up residence in Los Angeles California and had become one of the world's greatest fashion designers.

Picking up the now empty wine glass and switching off the lamps in her office, Kagome yawned and slowly moved herself out of the room. She walked down the flight of Spanish tile stairs towards the kitchen, a large spacious kitchen with black granite counter tops and three silver chrome sinks greeted her. She placed the wine glass down on the counter nearest the main sink which was next to the sub zero refrigerator. It was so very quiet except for the ticking of the giant grandfather clock in the hall.

Kagome glanced at the two first class plane tickets on the counter remembering why she was even going back to Tokyo in the first place. The conversation with her mother only a month ago is what made her decide to make the trip. She could recall her mother's voice. 'You never come home to see your family, you're always so busy. Have you no time for anything other than making money and being selfish. You're keeping your mother from seeing her only granddaughter.' Kagome rolled her eyes at the annoying voice in her head.

If only she could tell her mother the real reason she stays far away from Tokyo and Japan all together but for now she would just say that she had to work even if it made her seem selfish.

She needed to get some sleep. Their flight was at eight a.m. and she didn't want to feel like the walking dead when she got on board. Besides, she could always sleep on the plane. Heading towards the archway she shut off the light and headed down the hall then turned up the flight of stairs again but this time making her way to her daughter's room. Kagome opened the door quietly to see her daughter's lamp with a pink lampshade was still aglow. Shaking her head Kagome sighed and entered her daughter's room.

Tsuki lay sleeping with a large leather bound tome resting on her chest. Kagome lifted the large book of the Worlds' Ancient Folklore from off her daughter's body, closed it and put it on the nightstand. She sighed looking down at her daughter.

Almost twelve years old and she was already a pretty little thing. Of course she was home schooled. Not many would understand the two cute little doggie ears atop her head or her hair of beautiful spun silver and not to mention the two magenta stripes on either side of her face and the tiny blue crescent moon on her forehead. Of course Kagome could lie about the face markings saying it was paint and her daughter was going through one of her painting on everything phases but the hair and dog ears was another thing all together.

Kneeling by her bedside Kagome picked up her daughter's small hand. Tiny claws were visible on the ends of her fingers. No matter how many times they attempted to clip them they would always grow back the next day. Going out in public it was easy to hide the dog ears because Tsuki always had a beautiful scarf or her favorite hat that she would wear on her head. Kagome never really told Tsuki about her father and whenever the young girl would bring up the subject Kagome would always change it.

Carefully Kagome pulled the blankets up to her daughter's chin and tucked her in. Kissing her daughter's forehead Kagome stood and took one last look at Tsuki. She would do her best to keep her daughter from ever knowing her father. There were just some things that were better off not known and that was one of them. Turning out the light Kagome left Tsuki's room and headed to her own for a decent night's sleep.

It was a beautiful morning in Sengoku Jidia. Almost twelve years had passed since the defeat of Naraku and the completion of the Shikon no Tama. Lord Sesshomaru stared out his library window. He was going to take his daughter to see Inuyasha and the rest of that miserable group.

After all, he had promised that those miserable humans and that half breed brother of his would be able to spend time with her. He was always a Youkai of his word. He was a little irritated right now for he had a Youkai illness where it left his nose stuffed up. He wouldn't be able to smell anything for miles. He was useless and he hated feeling that way. Whenever this would happen he would send his daughter to see his half brother. At least there she was a little protected.

Sesshomaru walked through his parlor heading towards the dinning room. Upon reaching the doors he saw Rin eating off of a plate of fresh fruits.

"Good morning Lord Sesshomaru," Rin said politely.

He nodded once in her direction looking at the empty spot next to Rin. "Where is Mina?"

Reaching for the expensive sugar that they only had on occasion she drizzled it upon the fresh strawberries. "I think she is still abed this morning."

"Unacceptable," Sesshomaru growled out, turned and headed back the way he came. He made his way up the stairs and to his daughter's bedchamber and not bothering to knock, Sesshomaru pushed open the door. His daughter was not abed. She was seated in a lotus position on a straw mat on the floor. She was meditating. Her concentration being broken he saw her turn and look at him.

"Father." She nodded once and gracefully got to her feet.

"You were late for breakfast," he said calmly, his facial expression not giving any thing away, not his anger, nothing.

In a manner exactly as her father she looked up at him. "Forgive my rudeness, I was meditating and the hours seemed to pass by." Her posture was straight. She was elegant in her kimono of salmon, a gold obi wound around her waist, tied elegantly in the back in a rather luxurious bow.

She was quite lovely for her age and being only a hanyou. She had two magenta stripes on either side of her face. Her ears were similar to Inuyasha's sitting on top of her head and her long mane of silver spun hair hung down to her ankles. Even with all of her father's features she was still the spitting image of her mother. The shape of her eyes were a dead give away as to who her mother was. Her face shape and the way her hair hung and was slightly wavy also were her mothers.

"Come Mina, we have to get started on our journey to Inuyasha's Forest within the hour. You should have your breakfast. Rin has already started."

"No doubt she is also going only so that she may see that Shippou," Mina said following after her father at a quickened pace. Mina was almost a mini version of her father in the way she walked and spoke. The way she looked down on humans and other half blooded demons even though she was one of them. In other words she was as cold hearted as her father was, except in one area. Her mother.

Ever curious about the woman that bore her. Mina would often question her father about the woman, but he would always tell her, she was just a human and didn't matter much and then change the subject really quickly.

So whenever she would visit her half uncle Inuyasha, she would ask him about her. He would tell her some interesting tales and she wasn't sure if any of it were true, with her being a human and all. Sitting down at the table next to Rin, Mina reached for the stack of meats first.

Breakfast was soon finished and Mina, Rin and Sesshomaru were on their way to Inuyasha's forest.

Well that's the end of chapter 1. I just keep getting so many ideas that I just have to get them started. I do plan on finishing all these fanfictions, but it might take awhile haha. Remember to review.

Thanks,
