The Guild and the Mar

Well I've re edited this story after not writing so long so read your little eyes out!!

Chapter one: Guild and Mar

The young miko sat a few miles form her academy. Usually for a Miko to just leave the grounds would be unheard of: once you left the grounds, you also left the protection field.

It was an ugly age. Of course Kagome knew the world to be no other way. It was said that long time ago, youkie ruled over all. It was thought to just be a legend, but then about fifty years ago, the human race met its downfall. What exactly went wrong, no one really knows. The o-zone layer started cracking, the world ran out of gas, computers started breaking-down, and soon there was nothing left but fire, poverty, starving, and just plain living hell. Youkie then started coming out of their shells. Deciding to regain power. Obviously they were planning how to go about regaining power, and as they did the miko academy started up.

When Kagome was about ten, her family was killed by lower-class youkies. She survived by un-cautiously creating a shield around herself. Before she crawled out of the remains of her broken house, she found Shippo. He was a fox kit, and very much alone. Every since then he had stuck to her like glue, and became one of her closes companions. Of course there was Sango, who attended the exterminator Academy, and Miroku, her boyfriend that attended the monk academy.

"Mama!" She turned glad to see her "son" Shippo. He was taller then her now, but she still saw the hopeless kit she saved thirteen years ago.

"Hey, kit, what took you so long? You know they'll miss me if I stay away to long." She told giving him a hug.

"Yeah...I had a hang up." He said shakily and Kagome gave him a questioning look. "Yeah, it's strange I ran into a hanyo on the street, and you know he was masked, and um, he asked were the miko academy was."

"Really?" Kagome asked "You didn't tell him did you?"

"No, I just thought it was strange, an-"

Kagome waited for him to finish but suddenly he had brought his nose to the air. "Shippo what-" she began but stopped once she too felt it. "Youkie...Shippo I don't have my bow!"

Shippo took a step in front of her. "I have this fight, then." Kagome watched nervously as three youkie with remarkable speed came at them. She knew that in the last few years Shippo had been training but once he started fighting fear seized her. At the corner of her conscious she could feel a hanyo coming.

Before she knew it, the hanyo was on her, knocking her to her feet. "Hey, you can't just knock people over like that!" She cried looking up at her attacker. He had green eyes and thick black hair.

"Well, for your information, I just saved you from a flying dagger!" he yelled back at her before giving her a strange look. "Kikyo?"

"What! Who's that? Who are you, and why are you still on me!" She cried and pushed him off her.

"Kagome, hold tight!" Shippo yelled and realized he was still busy with two youkie. 'What? I thought I led him the wrong direction.' He thought seeing the hanyo.

"Hey you're Kagome?" The hanyo stranger said from behind her.

"Yeah, so what?" She said and then found herself being grabbed around the waist.

"You just made my day a lot easier." He said in her ear before jumping off the ground.

"What, Hey! Put me down! Hey I said- ahhhh!"

Sesshoumaru sat at his desk board. He heard a chime go off informing him that another hour had passed. It had been two hours and a half since he sent Inuyasha, and he still was not back. Not that he was worried. Inuyasha always seemed to worm his way out of bad looking situations. No, he was more mad that he had given him an hour to complete the task, that should have been fairly easy, and now Sesshoumaru had spent the last hour and half waiting. Sesshoumaru was not a patient being.

There was knocking at the door. "Yes?" he asked bored.

The door opened to revel his secretary, Lin. "Lord Inuyasha and a miko have entered. Where would you like me to put them?"

"Bring them up immediately." He said in the same voice.

"Jeeze women, what makes you think that I would want to touch you!" Inuyasha spat as he shivered out of his masking spell. 'Sesshoumaru's gonna love her...'

Kagome watched as black hair turned white and green eyes turned amber. "Then why did you bring me here? Who are you? Where am I?" Kagome asked angrily

"I told you'd find out later! Can you stop asking questions?" He shouted waiting for some to open the gate and greet them. "It's bad enough that Fluffy's gonna through a fit that I'm late without you demanding questions."

"And why don't my miko powers work!" She cried stomping the ground with her foot

This time the hanyo turned his head and gave her a grin. "Do you really think they would work in a youkie community?" Kagome stared at him dumfound as the gates before her opened to revel a female youkie.

"Lord Inuyasha, welcome back. Lord Sesshoumaru requests you." Kagome watched as the youkie in a shirt-suit ushered them up the staircase.

"Okay Lin. How mad is he, huh?" the one that Kagome know knew was Inuyasha said.

"Let's just that he has been waiting for almost two hours now." She replied

Kagome followed silently trying to remember every turn they took. 'Note to self: if I ever make it back to the academy, never go of grounds again' Despite all the warnings she never thought she'd actually be abducted. But that was just the weird part. Normally they would have just killed her, but this 'Inuyasha' had been looking for her, and brought her here.

"Lord Inuyasha, Miko-sama." Lin bowed giving Kagome a wry look before living. 'Not like she has to be worried. Can't use my powers anyway.'

"Come on." He held the door open and Kagome walked in.

The first thing that Kagome noticed about Sesshoumaru Taiyoukie, was his silver hair. It was different from Inuyasha, in his was white. The second thing she noticed was his amber-golden eyes. The third thing she noticed that he was very attractive. And the fourth was that he was an extremely powerful youkie that was staring at her intensely.

"You return Inuyasha." He said taking his eye off her to look at her kidnapper.

"Yeah, I couldn't find the place. And then she wasn't even there!" Inuyasha reasoned as he sat down motioning for her to the same.

Kagome just then realizing that Inuyasha had probably went to the academy to look for her first turned to him "You didn't hurt anyone there did you? And how were you, like, not purified?"

"Stop with questions!" he shouted. "Is that all you can do?!"

"Well if you answered any of them, I maybe I would stop!" she yelled right back

Sesshoumaru watched the two bicker back and forth and realized something was off key. The miko was not scared. He could sense no fear from her, only discomfort and she wasn't acting like a high-status miko that had just been thrown into a youkie community. She was wearing jeans, and a sweatshirt with the miko academy labeled on it. Her long raven hair was tied in a braid that went down to the middle of her back, and her bright sapphire eyes had a fire that he couldn't exactly explain.

"Quite." He said, and the two stopped immediately. He said nothing for a while just moved some papers around on his desk.

Kagome watched as he sat there reading papers. 'So he kidnaps me, and brings me here to watch him read...' True she could sense he was powerful, but she was mad enough with out having to wait for him to talk.

"Can I know what I'm doing here, now?" She asked more boldly than she felt. She felt Inuyasha stiffen next to her and Sesshoumaru bring up his eye to her and raising an eyebrow.

"You can look at it two way's miko," he began and was extremely annoyed when she cut in.

"My name is Kagome." She said,

Sesshoumaru tapped his claws on his desk giving her a bored look. "Be that as it may, I don't care to use it...miko." He almost grinned as she huffed and crossed her arms. 'Still too comfortable.' "The first way being that you are here to have the protection of the Guild Youkie. The second being that you are a prisoner here that should watch your back. I can't control everything."

Kagome felt her stomach dropped and suddenly remembered why she was supposed to be afraid. "Protection form who?"

"From the Mar Youkie." Kagome at the time felt very stupid. She was obviously missing a big piece of the puzzle.

"Yeah, okay, here's the deal. I don't know where I am. I have no idea what the difference is between Guild and Mar. Up until like a minute ago I wasn't aware that I needed protection, and still don't know the reason why. I'm hungry, and now I have to worry about getting killed, and I want to go home!" her voice started out strong but soon turned into winning.

Sesshoumaru heard Inuyasha snicker, and gave him a 'I'm-about-to-starte-chopping-some-heads-off-do-you-want-to-be-first?' look. "Tell me brother, is this not the protector or not. Because I might be a little angry if I'm to find that you wasted my time retrieving an amateur who lacks what I'm looking for and does nothing but reflect the age of a child."

Inuyasha had known his brother all his life. He knew what almost every look and every tone of voice meant. This one in particularly meant that he was very agitated and it was now time for him to take over. Even though he would never just say that.

"Look what Fluffy is trying to say here," he began ignoring the deadly look Sesshoumaru gave at the sound of his 'nick-name' "Is that there is no use hiding that you're the protector because we know and that's not what we're after."

Kagome gave a confused look. "Protector of what?" she asked and Inuyasha rolled his eyes.

"The Shikon Jewel, duh." Kagome felt her world stop. 'They think I'm the protector of the Shikon Jewel!'

The jewel was an old legend. It had disappeared 600 years ago or something like that. She reminded her self not to laugh out loud, seeing that they did not think of this as a joke. 'If I tell them that I'm not the protector, they might kill me.

"Darn!" She lied the best she could. "How did you figure that one out? I was thought that was top secret you know." She laughed nervously under the two brother's gaze.

"Milord excuse me but your 6 o'clock is here." The youkie name Lin stepped in. Sesshoumaru nodded and stood. "Inuyasha" he said and they both left.

As soon as the door closed Kagome got up and searched around the desk. Finding a paper with her name she read 'HUGSHURI, KAGOME. THAT IS HER NAME. THEY HAVE BEEN WATCHING HER CLOSELY AND CONFRIMMED THAT SHE IS INDEED THE PROTECTOR '

"Man, if Sesshoumaru found you snooping around his desk, he would fly off the handle!" Kagome jumped to see Inuyasha standing there.

"I was not snooping!" She huffed and stepped away from the desk.

"I mean he can't kill me because I'm family, but you! Oh yup, he could defiantly kill you. I mean especially since you're not to the protector, and all." He said with a shrug, and Kagome dropped her shoulders in defeat.

"How did you know?" she asked

"I didn't but you just told me." He said

"Hey!" Kagome replied angrily

"But it just doesn't make since. Why would they think you are if you're not?" He said sitting down. "Fluffy's going to be in an even worse mood when he as to figure this out."

"Who's they?" Kagome asked not noticing that she was sitting in Sesshoumaru's chair. Inuyasha glanced at the girl who was sitting in Sesshoumaru's chair. 'Ah, if only he could see that.'

"So you really don't know anything about it?" he asked and she shook her head. "The youkies are divided into two. One side wants to go back to how we were a long time ago. Shared powers and so on. That's us, the Guild. The Mar on the other hand wants to dominate. Take everything over. To do that of course, he needs the Shikon. Someone I knew long time ago, sealed him, she wasn't strong enough to kill him. But he broke the seal." He said the last part a little heavy, and Kagome wondered why.

"Kikyo?" She said gently and Inuyasha turned his eyes to her in question. "The one you thought was me. I've been told I look like her before. They say the only difference is our eyes. And our personality. She was much more down to business, and not so wild. Like a real miko should be."

"Yes she was." He said distantly and Kagome nodded. "So does that mean you're not a real miko?"

She laughed. "No I'm a real one alright. They just don't agree with my morals and actions...and everything else! They can't let me go though. They know they need me." Inuyasha smiled and he found that he liked how she smiled and laughed too. 'Why isn't she judging me? But then again she did have a youkie protecting her. Wait, I knew that youkie!'

"Shippo!" Kagome looked up

"What? Where?" she asked.

"No I know him. He was protecting you right?" he asked and she nodded. "That little... If Sesshoumaru finds this out he's in trouble."

"Wait, what? You know him? And why would he be in trouble?" 'Another twist' she thought

"Shippo came here a few years back to get training. He moved up in ranks quick. That's why if Sesshoumaru found out he knew you, he'd be in trouble. A few weeks ago all the top ranks were asked if they heard of you. He lied! That means that he's probably been protecting you this whole time!"

Kagome leaned back. "And he never told me?" She said tiredly

"And you have to go and ruin it by leaving the academy! Are you dumb?" He asked switching tone.

"No, he's the one that told me to meet him there...because he knew you would go to the academy to look for me!" She said connecting the dots. "So does that mean he's here? Can I see him!"

"Calm down, jeeze. I'll show you the way." He said getting up.

"Wait, I won't get attacked?" She asked and was glad at his response.

"No one's gonna mess with you while your with me." She got up a followed him.

"Shippo!" Kagome cried and hugged him.

"Watch the ears women." Inuyasha said sliding into the room.

"Mama, I didn't know that was Inuyasha and I was so worried!" Shippo said giving Kagome a kiss on the cheek.

"Wait a minute. There is no earthly way that is your mother." Inuyasha broke in and the two looked at him.

"I saved him when he was little." She said as if that explained everything. "And then he repays me by lying to me!" She shouted slapping him in the arm.

"I couldn't tell Kags!" he argued "Well at least you're safe here."

"Kags? Hm, I like that better." Inuyasha said. "She's not so safe here once Sesshoumaru clarifies that she's not the protector."

"But she is." Shippo replied and Kagome looked at him

"I am?" she asked

"Yeah, it's inside of you. You just don't know it."

"And why not?" Kagome and Inuyasha said at the same time.

"That's why since you were born; the Miko Academy has stayed so close. Usually that wouldn't worry so much over someone trying to run away." He said and Kagome sat down 'This is too much for one day...'

"How do you know this and I don't?" she asked still not believing.

"Remember when you saved me, and you brought me to the academy." She nodded "You were asleep when I snuck out and overheard it. You have the jewel Kagome. They found me and told me that it was better for you if you didn't know. Only Keade thought different.

"At first I didn't believe it either, but through the years, you've shown that you have. You have enough power to tempt the creator herself!"

"Well this is good! Now Fluffy won't be all mad and you won't die!" Inuyasha proclaimed. "You on the other hand, kit. Being second in command I will punish you for lying to the committee."

"Oh, come on Yasha you wouldn't do that!" Shippo chirped

"I wouldn't?" Inuyasha crossed his arms.

"No because I'll tell him what really happened to his sword that was destroyed last year by, what is it that you said happened?" Shippo replied smugly.

"Yeah, yeah. I wasn't really gonna turn you in." he said

"Hey mama you wanna go out to eat. We have some good food inside the Gate! Are you okay?" he added concerned.

"No! No I am not okay! I just found out that I have the Shikon Jewel inside me and I'm gonna be in the middle of a tug-a-war between youkie! I am not okay!" she declared on the top of her lungs

"I'm thinking Ojies. They have such good food there!" Inuyasha said and Kagome let out a blow of frustration.

"Shippo maybe you should inform Inuyasha, that it would not do well to mess with me when I'm already very tired and mad!" she exclaimed.

"Yeah,yeah Kags. Let's go eat already!" Inuyasha replied leaving.

"Come on mama. He's really not so bad. And you'll be okay. Since you have the jewel you'll be under Sesshoumaru-sama's protection. And trust me, that's the best protection there is." He tried to reassure her in a soft voice, as they too left.

"Sesshoumaru-sama! We found something amazing!" Sesshoumaru sat down and moved his unemotional eyes to the scrawny youkie infront of him.

"Indeed it must be to set a meeting up. You must know that my time is precious." He had been a little surprised that his researchers had wanted to meet him. 'Must be a new find'

"We've figured out the Kea Ooki!" Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow now actually interested. "We always wondered about it. A force so great that it would restore all this rubbish they have done to our world. We thought that it was surely just a myth.

"But there was a new find a ways away. It was lucky we got there before the Mars! But there we found an old prophecy, written by no other than Lady Sukusa. 'AND THE JEWEL IS BURNED AND THEN ALIVE AGAIN, THE WORLD WILL BE IN RUINS. IN THIS TIME THERE IS HOPE, BUT THE KEA OOKI RESIDEDS IN A HUMAN.'"

Sesshoumaru let the words replay in his head, trying to ignore the fact that his mother had made the prediction. 'A human...how disgraceful' "And you are sure this is of Lady Sukusa?" he asked

"Yes milord! We will begin immediately trying to figure out who it is talking about, we just wanted to inform you first, Sesshoumaru-sama."

Sesshoumaru nodded. "Very well, you are dismissed."

It was strange he had always thought that Kea Ooki was a time, not a power. That out of no were all would be undone, and restarted. But it was a power...from a human.

"Ah, mother you could not of just told me all these things?" he questioned out loud.

/'Don't be in such a hurry my boy. You'll have time.'/ He remembered her telling him that.

'That's right, but you ran out of time mother.' He growled, pushing the cold old memories down.
