Prelude: The Pure One

Summary: Kagome has passed five years in the future and comes across information of the Holy War that killed all of the youkai hundreds of years ago. But she's in the future, she can't do anything about it ,. . . right? Yet after some disturbing changes and startling visions she realizes she has to go back.

On a happy note, this will be Kag/Sess, if you hate this pairing then don't read. It's that simple.

Prelude

The Pure One

Beneath her the land floated away,

Pure white wings beat rhythmically against the blood red sky.

The winged one came to a stop as crimson eyes took in the carnage on the battlefield before her. Her heart tugged in pain. Her people are dying. These monsters from across the great sea show no mercy.

Not even the young are sparred.

Desperately she calls out in her mind, "Mate! I need you!"

She can feel him to try to reach her. He is on the front line battling with his red clad general. She can hear him as he talks in her mind. He begs her not to do what she knows she must. Taking a deep breath she drew his power to her. She starts to glow. Pure and strong. She can save her people. They would not be exterminated in some 'holy crusade.'

She knows she will not live.

Glowing tears run down her silhouetted face as she starts to chant, and her powers flare. Her wings cease to move as she hovers in mid-air. Her people below her watch in awe. 'I will not let you die.' She silently vows as she feels her mate coming on fast. He will try to stop her, she knows. Yet this is her duty. This is why she is here.

The prophesy must be fulfilled.

Her anger, her worries, her fears are all voiced in one agonized cry as her powers are released. The battlefield below her is illuminated in a blinding light as her people's features start to morph and change. Markings disappear, and powers become unrecognizable. They are still there, yet the onlooking armies can't see that as they stare on in confusion. 'Foolish humans.' She sneers in a language the humans can't understand. 'Must you always destroy what you view as different. What you view as unholy?'

Must you destroy what you cannot tame?

"We will not bow to you!" Her cry says.

Arrows shoot and the pure one falls from the sky.

The ground races up to meet her, and she tried to draw in a breath through shattered lungs. Her world is burning. Through the fire she sees a face lean over her, and she recognizes him in her pain. He is in pain also. She can feel it. Her crimson eyes fade to gold as she realizes that his pain is felt for her. "Mate." She tries to say, but it only comes out as a muffled groan as blood pools at the corner of her mouth. She raises a trembling clawed hand to touch his markings for one last time. "I love you." her eyes say what she cannot as he begs for her to hold on. "I'll love you always."

Her life leaves her, and he holds her broken body to him in one last desperate embrace. Tears threatened to spill from his eyes as they started to glow. His eyes finally bleed red as his rage overtakes him, and he throws his head back and howls. A cry for all to hear.

'We've been betrayed.' His cry says.

'Your Lady has died so that you may live.' Is what his people hear.

They look on in rage as they take up their Lord's call.

The sound deafens the now terrified humans.

Their Lady is dead.

Their Lord wants revenge.

He rises after tenderly laying his mate's body down. He bares his fangs as he unsheathes hi swords. On his head a crescent moon blazes.

There will be blood tonight.

Please review. I've worked really hard on this story, and I can promise you. It won't be your typical Sess/Kag story. This story is my pride and joy, and I will be greatful for any feedback I can get. Good or bad. Just no flames. They are tasteless and unethical.
