The Truth about Heaven
"Love is all about timing. It's never good to find love too early or too late."
-Cho Mo Wang (Tony Leung)from 2046
Chapter 1
Who would've thought that heaven was so boring and lonely? Surrounded by beautiful people, fake or not, they were nice to your face. I just finished one of my projects and now everyone is going to see it. Everyone is getting dressed up to go. But he's not going to be by my side. Again.
Our relationship is truly nothing. Now it's just for show. I don't care. So instead I'm going with my brother, Souta. At least someone cares.
I have worked hard to get to where I am now. I haven been in Battle Royale, Suicide Club aka Suicide Circle, and many other Asian films. Also I have starting to get into American films like Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Wedding Crashers. They were all fun to make. But my true passion is independent. Asian independent films. American ones are good, but they are restricted by society. But that's just my opinion.
My next role will be in the movie 2046. I play a prostitute hopelessly in love with my neighbor who never returns my love because of his past. So I will have to move to China, since it's a Chinese film. I'm half Japanese and Chinese, so I guess I could pass for being Chinese.
I will have to take classes to learn how to act like a Chinese hostess wearing skin-tight dresses, fur shawls, and high heels. Let's just say I'm not the most graceful person in heels. Also a lot of hair spray since the setting is back in the sixties. What I love about this film is that doesn't have a happy ending that every person would like to have. But it's perfect for this story and it also seems so real, like it's a true story.
Little did I know that I would be living my role.
The day that I met him would be the best and worst day of my life.
I moved to Hong Kong three months before we were to start filming to start my rigorous training for being a Chinese hostess. Who would've thought that it was actually hard work? The way you walk, talk, and move. Also how you hold and light a cigarette. Another thing would be is getting used to the hair. I never thought that hair could be so heavy. I will never use hair spray again in my life.
For the past three weeks I would go to the same supermarket for food every three days. I had a different diet to keep my figure slim and fit. So I had to eat different things everyday. My nutritionist only gives me a three day plan depending on my weight and many other aspects, like sugar and salt intake. She also said that it would be good for me to walk to get my food to keep me in tip-top shape. And every time I went in there I saw him.
He is so....captivating. Probably the most handsome guy that I have ever seen in my life. And I'm surrounded by beautiful people all-well most of the time. He had defining features on his face that made him stick out amongst the Chinese. The mysterious man has to be Japanese or Korean, at least. His hair went to chin length and was curling at the ends-probably from wearing beanies-that was an unnatural color for his age, silver. But it was his eyes that drew me to him, hi beautiful amber eyes. Just thinking about him gives me the shivers. But he worked as the cashier.
Isn't that hilarious? Famous actress Kagome Higurashi is infatuated with the local store clerk.
The only bad thing about my training is that I have to dress up like a sixties Chinese hostess, meaning that I have to wear the skin-tight dress that I can barely breathe in, the high heels that I can barely walk in, the hot fur shawl,-though gorgeous, I might add. Real fox fur and antique. Delicious- and my big hair that added a lot of weight. Damn hair spray.
His line was full of women-young, old, and older-trying to get his attention and flirt with him. Which happens every time and I mean every time I come here. Well maybe today is an exception because he's the only one working at the register.
"Hello, how are you?" the handsome man said, though he sounded very rehearsed.
"Tired, but doing good. I didn't know being a Chinese hostess would be hard work. How are you?" hopefully I didn't sound like a baka.
"Bored." was all he said. He just went back to his job of scanning my food. Let's just say it got kind of awkward.
What compelled me to say what I said next was just that I hate awkward silences. I just have to say something.
So when he handed me my change and looked him in the eyes and this is what blurted out.
"I like your eyes. They are a very unique color." Could I have been more dumb sounding? Hopefully I make it out of the store without any interruptions.
Before he could even reply or do anything at all I hear, "Oh my gosh! Are you Kagome Higurashi?" a teenage girl tapped my shoulder.
Damn. So close, yet so far.
"Guilty." I replied sheepishly.
"Can I have your autograph?" "Can I take a picture with you?"
I don't mind my fans but sometimes it's just nice to feel like a regular person, you know? I truly don't understand why my job is so noticeable or why I get paid an insane amount of money to do what I do. I use some of money to help out regular that really need it. Like children with cancer and their families can't afford the treatment. It also put my brother through college and keep our shrine stay afloat.
After twenty minutes of signing autographs and taking pictures I was finally helped out of the store by none other than the cashier.
"Arigato." I tell him.
He just nods.
Isn't he just full of conversation? Jeez, I never thought that someone could talk so much. "Are you Japanese?" I asked.
"Hai. I have to get back to work. Sayonara." he started to walk away.
"Domo arigato." he paused, looked over his shoulder and walked back into the store.
