Chapter One

Speak Up

We were friends, always friends. Ever since childhood, it was impossible to separate us.

But as we got older and into middle school, my feelings for her changed and she was no longer my friend.

She was... my first love.

Every day I promised myself, 'This will be the day that I tell her that I love her.'

More days past and I kept telling myself, 'I will tell her today that I love her.'

We soon went into high school and went out separate ways, but we kept in touched and talked.

I promised that I would tell her that I loved her every time I saw her.

When prom came, she hadn't a date and neither did I.

We went together and I told myself, 'Tonight will be the night where I tell her that I love her.'

At graduation, how I wished I told her I loved her.

At her wedding, the priest said, "If anyone objects to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace."

How I wished I objected and said, 'I love you.'

But instead, she wedded my brother and became my sister.

When she gave birth to her first child, how I wished I told her that I loved her.

When I stared at her grave, I wished I just told her that I loved her.

I went back into her old room and found her diaries.

I was shocked, and now I regretted everything.

In there, it revealed one secret.

'When will Sesshomaru tell me that he loves me? For he has no idea how much I love him.'

'Today, I shall tell him my darkest secret. I shall have the courage to tell him that I love him.'

'When I see him again, I shall become his and he will become mine, for this time, I'll tell him.'

I dropped her diary, and laughed at myself.

I was a fool, a coward to say the least.

All this time, she loved me and I loved her.

We were both cowards.

Now how I wished these words escaped from my lips.

'I love you, Kagome.'
