End of a Season

Sessoumaru golden eyes looked down at his ailing mate. In illness she looked of an angel. Her ebony hair fanned out on the pillows. Her skin a pale snow, making her rosy cheeks stand out. Her plush pink lips breathing in a steady rhythm. It was a picture of perfection that was flawed. Flawed by the smell of disease and sweat. Sessoumaru white fire orbs flashed with what the wise would name as inner pain.

"Sessoumaru? My love?" The melody of his mates voice called out in a whoosh of air.

"Yes, mine." Kagome's rouge colored mouth twitched up in a pain filled smile at the pet name.

"I was calling for you." The flash of what could be called pain passed though his eyes again.

"I know mate. I could feel you."

Kagome cut to the point, "I am human Sessoumaru. You knew this would come." Sessoumaru said nothing then again Kagome didn't need an answer.

"Do you remember?"

"You are not being clear mate." An emotion that Sessoumaru wanted to title as anger or happiness twisted his mates face.

"I am sorry Sessoumaru I am tired. Do you remember when you told me I was like a cherry blossom?"

The powerful lord's eye softened before freezing back to their natural flavor. "Yes, you told me you did not wish to be a cherry blossom but a leaf."

"You are correct Sessoumaru. I never told you at the time but I saw you as the evergreen tree. In the coldest wind or deepest snow you were green... I wished to be a leaf so that I could stay with you for more then one season."

Sessoumaru's claws tightened bring blood to the palm of his hand. "Mat-"

"No Sessoumaru. Let me finish. I was a blossom that would soon fade as spring turned to summer." Her heartbeat was fading. The puffs of breathe lessing. A dry cracked laugh parted her lips. "It turns out I really was just a cherry blossom that will fade with the rain of May." Sessoumaru's body shook with fury or pain, maybe both. "Please, please Sessoumaru remember that the blooming of cherry blossoms comes with the melting of winter." Kagome's rich soil colored eyes open to look at her mate with love before closing... forever.
