Chapter 1 – Death and sacrifices & A call to war
It was a stormy day with strong gusts of wind and heavy sheets of rain, and in the midst of it all in a valley ringed by mountains was a young girl around the age of seventeen. She had pale golden skin and her eyes were a gray/golden swirl though that was all you could see of her due to her cloak wrapped tightly about her. She was thinking about her little sister back home because she was sick and needed a certain herb to cure her. That was why she currently was out in the storm, though she had no luck so far in finding the herb.
She couldn't give up though because if she did then her little sister would die for the sickness was fatal without treatment, and the healer wouldn't help treat her even though he had plenty of the herb she was searching for.
A particularly strong gust of wind nearly knocked her over and she righted herself while pulling her cloak closer about her, searching for a cave or some type of shelter to stay in for the night. It was no use staying out here and dieing when she was trying to save her little sister. Her little sister might have been adopted but she was still her sister and she would be damned if she were to die, especially after only twelve years of life. She wouldn't allow it. After nearly half an hour of searching she finally found a small covered shelf in the nearby mountains to rest in while she waited for the storm to blow over.
After a day and a half the storm still hadn't let up but had only gotten progressively worse and the golden skinned girl was now scared that the storm wasn't going to end in time for her to get the herb and get back to her sister to save her. She didn't have that long when she left a week ago for her to get the herb and the storm was only slowing her down.
Another lightning bolt struck nearby but she took no notice, she was thinking and was close to just climbing off of the shelf and searching for the herb. She didn't have much time and the storm wasn't letting up. At least if she died she died trying to save her sister, she was the last family that she had. Her sister was going to die if she didn't hurry. Coming to a decision she jumped down and was immediately knocked over because of how strong the wind was. Standing up she began her search in the rain, wind and lightning.
After two hours she found what she came here for, a dark blue flower covered with small sharp pointed leaves, and yelping in joy she turned around to what she hoped was the entrance and exit of the valley and started to head home, back to her sick sister.
When she stepped into the little two room, run down shack that she and her little sister lived in she started to worry. Even though she was sick her little sister, Kagome, was always one to welcome her home, and for her to walk into a silent home with no sister at the door scared her.
Was she too late? Did she take longer than she thought? Was her sister merely still asleep in their shared room on her bed? She didn't know, and not knowing was killing her, so shedding her cloak as sack, after grabbing the herb, she headed straight into their room. What she saw made her stop dead in her tracks and the herb to fall out of her hand.
Her sister wasn't breathing.
The high elf, Michiko, stared in shock at Kagome, she took too long getting to herb and now her Kagome was dead, her precious little sister. Michiko cried walked over to Kagome crying and kneeled down beside her. Taking Kagome's hand in hers and holding it close to her heart she continuously asks for her forgiveness and apologizes.
All of a sudden Michiko feels the room get colder, freezing cold, and the wall to her right starts to glow a light green color. The glow starts to center in the middle of the wall and forms a door like portal. Looking closer she sees a dark shape that was coming towards her from the portal and she unconsciously steps in front of Kagome, blocking her from view. When the figure stepped out of the portal to where she could she them she gasped. The person was obviously male and very beautiful. He had blood red hair and eyes the color of the moon, and his features were smooth and refined. She snaps out of daze when he spoke to her.
"Michiko you love your sister even though you two are not related." It was not a question but she answered anyway.
"Yes I do, she is the only true family I've ever had." She briefly wondered who this stranger was but didn't ask. She had a feeling he would leave if she were to ask.
"I can bring her back if you wish it."
"Y-you can bring back?" Were the only words that she managed to gasp out in shock.
"Yes I can, but at a price."
"What's the price? I would give anything if it meant my little sister was going to be alive again." She saw a smirk that soon turned into a wide grin cross his face and shuddered as she started to be afraid of the stranger.
"You must give yourself to me." Her eyes widened in shock as she stared at him. Give herself to him?
"What?"
"You will belong to me for all of eternity for our long life unless I was to die. But then again a god can't die, at least not that easily." She thought she was shocked before but she was wrong. The stranger in front of her, not but three feet away was a god! But then she though of what else he said. If she wanted her sister to come back to life she had to give herself over to him. She would lose all of her freedom and become nothing more than a plaything. Could she really do that, even for her sister? She looked back at Kagome as she thought. Yes, yes she could. She looked back at him as she replied.
"If you bring Kagome back to life before me right now then I will give myself to you, but I won't give myself to you before then." He smiled at her as he walked closer to her and then he walked past towards Kagome. He put his hands above her and his hands slowly began to glow light green. When that happened he grabbed Kagome's hands and the glow spread out through her and she soon started to breathe, all signs of her illness and death gone.
The god looked back at Michiko with a gentle look in his eyes for a brief moment then looked back to Kagome and picked her up. He started to chant something and all of a sudden she disappeared out of his arms. At Michiko's shocked and angered look he told her that he merely sent Kagome to someone that could properly care for her, so she had no need to worry.
He then took her hand and led her through the portal, back to his home. Michiko gasped in shock at what she saw when she stepped out of the portal. He said he was a god but not that he was the god of storms and fate, the most powerful god of all. The god, Taiki.
4 years later
"Keade, I found it!" The old woman Keade looked at the owner of the voice and smiled gently.
"Aye, that you did Kagome. May I inquire as to where it was?"
"It was on the night stand." Kagome giggled. "Where you had put the package last night before we fell asleep." She grinned as she handed the package over to Keade and giggled again when Keade scowled at her. Kagome didn't ask what was in the package for the main reason that Keade was a secretive, but kind, woman and more likely than not wouldn't answer her.
Keade was a short human woman but was a great fighter from years of training. You wouldn't know it though because she looked like a simple sweet old lady at first glance. It took either someone who knew her well or another trained fighter to tell that she wasn't the sweet old lady she appeared to be. Keade was the local healer and trainer of the various arts and she held her position with the honor that she taught to all of her students, herself included.
When she had first come here she was asleep. Keade had told her later after she woke up that she had seen a flash of light and went outside to check it out to find her on her doorstep. Kagome told her that she had no memory of coming here; the last thing that she remembered was falling asleep while waiting for her big sister to get home. Kagome told her that her sister was out getting an herb to cure her of some sickness she had.
The healer had some of the herb that she needed, but wouldn't give any of it to those who lived in the slums for they were unworthy of his services or the herbs he had. Keade was shocked and angry at that because she believed that everyone, no matter what their position was, deserved to be helped, a healer had to treat everyone that came to his or her door.
Keade had checked her over and found no traces of any sickness but contributed her health to her strange appearance. Keade took her in after she asked Kagome about the rest of her family and Kagome told her that she had no other family besides her sister. She taught her how to properly heal someone and to tell the different herbs and other things apart and taught her how to fight. Keade refused to have anyone who lived with her to be useless and weak, especially a woman.
Kagome watched as Keade put the package within her overly large sack and left, motioning for her to follow her. They headed out of the house they lived in and started to walk towards the local store so they could purchase their food. As soon as they got there they heard the sound of a galloping horse and looked around and saw a messenger from the High King Sugimi Toga. As soon as the messenger got into the town square he started shouting to the gathered crowd.
"Prepare yourselves, for we have gone to war!"
