Story Bound Reality by Queen of the past
A Life of Loss and a Desire of Drems
She sighed quietly while sinking lower in her desk. She propped her head up with her hand this action slightly deforming her face. She knew that it was a necessary, but math had to be the dullest, most mind-numbing subject school had to offer. She stared unfocused at her open math book; mind wandering as she listened to the low vibrations of her teachers voice. She glanced casually at the clock in the front if the room; only three more minutes to go. The second hand seemed to slow as she watched it move around the face of the clock. She wanted to go home, lie in her bed, and read. Now a days that is all she ever wanted to do.
When her father had died in a car accident her mom had forgotten about her and her brother it was as if the only reason she had ever kept them around was because its what her father had wanted. Once he died her mother sent her brother away to some sort of special school. Leaving only herself and her mother to tend to the shrine.
Kagome's mom showed no affection towards her they never spoke, or for that matter even saw each other. In the mornings when she would head off to school her mother could be found on the couch hung over from previous night. From what Kagome could make out from her schedule; everyday after work her mother would go out carousing with her friends. By the end of the night she would come home drunk with her clothes haphazardly thrown on from where she had slept with a different man that night. Then she would pass out on the couch and stay there till it was time her to go to work.
And as if home wasn't bad enough school simply had nothing to offer her anymore she was the smartest in her advanced Senior class, aced every test, quiz, anything the teachers threw before her she would complete with flying colors. That being true most of the kids were jealous of her so she had no friends everyone treated her like she had the plague avoiding her at all cost. It had been like this forever and as the kids grew older it became somewhat if a game to see who send her home crying. She was a freak no other word for.
So with no friends or family she had retreated into books, fantasy worlds if her own imagination. They were always here for her, always with a story to tell, and she'd listened to them, watched as she read magical land come to life in her mind. Lands with kings, queens, princes, and princesses; lords, ladies, and demons. The books were her family and the characters her friends. That was all she had in the world and as far as she was concerned that was all she needed.
"RRRRIIIIINNNNGGGG..." the harsh, high-pitched bell brought her back to reality. She stood up slowly stretching, as did so people pushed her out of the way causing her to stumble a bit. She peered down at her open math book that was still lying on her desk. The page that it had been turned to now had a few wrinkles across it from were her elbow had put stress on it. She quickly closed the book and gathered the rest of her belongings shoving them all into her large yellow bag. Slinging that over her shoulder, she left the dreary classroom and began her journey home.
She never liked walking home all the bustle of the city made her feel trap and dizzy. So many noises all going on at once it was madding. She walked at prompt pace looking down at the ground the entire time. She had walked this route so many times that now she could tell were she was going by looking at the cracks in the sidewalk. She would kick the pebbles and small rocks that fell in her path to entertain herself.
No matter what her walk would end in the same place. She stopped and looked up at the thousands of stairs that lead her to her broken home. For a few minutes she stood here gazing at the steps debating with herself if she should proceed with her original course or just stroll past the foreboding residence that had been her cage for so many years . The debate always ended the same though; she would walk up the stair with her head hung low an eyes brimming with unshed tears that would never have a chance to grace her pale cheeks. She came to the end of journey; she wiped the remnants of her sadness from her eyes as her home came into view.
She slid open the door that lead into the main hallway. She began to remove her shoes , but was interrupted by her rotund cat Buyo. At first Kagome did not even know the large house cat was there .She ignored him continuing to mess with her shoes. He did not approve of this so to show his annoyance he nipped her finger.
"ouch! What was that for ?" Kagome said as she stared into the cats huge green eyes
He sat in front of her for a few seconds till he realized she had not taken the hint. So began to rub against her leg.
She looked down at old fat cat. He would do anything for some attention, and if he was not attended to he would slowly turn into a minor annoyance. She looked down into Buyo's face, those large eyes were always able to get her down on her knees and play with him.
Today however all she wanted to do was to get to her room as soon as she possibly could. She bent down only far enough for her hand to reach the top of his head. She patted him lightly but only for a few seconds.
"I've got to go Buyo. We'll play some other time ."
And with that she walked up the stairs and down the hall that lead to her room . As she left she hear a lazy meow fallow her.

She had finished all of her chores and was attempting to complete her homework. The task had taken longer than she would of thought. Between math, science, language and history it had taken her a total of 3 hours to finish. She was on the last subject history they were studying about myths and legends of Feudal Japan . She loved this subject but the way her history book worded the amazing stories that she knew all to well bored her .So she soon gave up on her homework and packed it into her huge bag.
Once done with that task Kagome went into her bathroom. She started the shower, striped and proceeded into the warm water. It felt good, relaxing all of her tight mussels and putting her in an almost calm state.
When done and out she combed through her long raven locks. She then got out her enormous hair dryer and then began to dry them. The warm, continual flow of air blew over her gently warming her entire body.
Then she stepped back into her room she searched through her draws and closet until she found something to wear. She settled on a pair of jeans that hugged her tight showing the every curve of her small form .They were dark blue almost to the point of being considered not blue but purple. She also wore an small white tee-shirt that was cut just above her bellybutton showing and putting emphasis in her petite figure.
She then went over to her large bookcase . She examined each book looking at spines most were worn from her having read them a thousand and six times at the least. She inhaled deeply taking in the smell of the old books. She ran her long, slender, index finger over a few. Then all of the sudden her eyes lit up with happiness that her face was unable to imitate .She pulled a blue hard back book from the case. The book looked to be decades old. The ends of the spine were frayed and the title was gone worn off with age. The pages were yellow and torn around the edges. The cover of the ancient book was tattered you could barely make out what the title was and all that remained in perfect condition was a picture of a heart with a rose in the middle from rose vines protruded all the way covering every inch of the heart that enclosed it all.
She ran her fingers over the sketch and opened the book to the first page .Out of all the stories she had this one was her favorite. She and the main character had the same name; in fact her dad had once told her that she was named after the girl in the story. Before he died he use read to her from this book every night . It was the only one she would let him read to her. He would read till she fell asleep in his lap, and then he would take her up to her room and tuck her into bed.
Since then she had read the book at least two thousand times she knew it so well that she could recite it from memory. It was about a demon princess named Kagome who is taken away from her family at birth in order to protect her from the war going on . She is the soul being who is to inherit the right to rule of all in the land. To assure her safety she is sent to a small village within the Western Lands to live a normal life as a peasant girl. Until the day comes that she is old enough to claim her inheritance no one is to tell her of her heritage or of the massive amount of demonic power she processed . Then the land comes under attack she is captured and is forced into slavery by the enemy .The Lord of the Western lands comes and frees all the imprisoned inhabitants, and she is so grateful that she actually goes to work for him . The Lord is amazed by the amount of knowledge the girl had on military affairs He soon found out who she truly was. They fall in love, marry, and she takes her place on the throne.
Kagome had always dreamed of a life like the princesses. She wanted to live a life of adventure, excitement, and romance. Every time Kagome would read the book she always pretend that she was the princess and she herself got to live that exciting life. She wanted to find out what it felt like to be loved .To be held in the arms of someone who wanted to be with you and protect you . Something she had lost the night of the car crash and with death of her father.
She stayed in her room the rest of the night. She read only looking up once when the sun was going down to turn on the lamp beside her bed. She read and read till she finally fell into a long deep sleep the open book perched on top of her nose ; as she drifted off into her dreams.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
She'd had the same dream for the past three days . It always started with her in complete darkness. She would only stand looking around at the vast span of darkness , and then she would begin to run she would run fast and hard in one direction never looking back. She ran until she came upon a light in the distance at first it blinded her it was pure and bright. This is were the past dreams had ended with her standing just beyond the point were the darkness ended and the light took its place. She would not let it end the same tonight when she came to the light this time she did not stop her running to stare at the beauty the brightness brought. She ran till she was surrounded by the warm ,blinding substance. She rubbed her eyes into focus and she saw it.
She was standing on a small square around her was water dark and malicious looking. In front of her was another square like the one she was standing on ; She looked in front of her ,and was amazed at what she saw. There floating in the center of the water was a pure white rose. It glowed only bright enough to show her the way to it ,and it was only a rose bud thin folded up in its self.
Kagome's curiosity got the best of her and she finally moved closer to the beautiful rose. She jumped from square to square careful of where she paced her feet. She reach the last square and stood before the mammoth flower it was the same size as herself . Now closer she could see that a multitude of tangled vines was keeping the great flower afloat before she could return her gaze to the rose one of the long vines moved and stood in front of her . She was beside herself this was unlike any dream she had ever had. The long thick green vine then bent down the tip of it just barely touched the toes of her shoes. It then slanted up wards climbing to the top of the rose ,and before she knew it the long , green ,earthy vine had transformed into a small narrow staircase. Without thinking Kagome began to ascend up the strange stairway.
When she made it to the top she looked around darkness was still consuming most of the room .She looked down the stairs had ended just above the large flower ; from were she stood now she could look down at her feet and see the many white petals of the blooming beast entwined closely together. She was with in reach of the rose she slowly kneeled and stretched a delicate hand towards the blossom. She was so close she could feel the heat that the flower gave off .
Her fingertips had scarcely touched one of the petals when all of the sudden a blinding light shot from the top off the plant. The light began to twist and turn till it was in the form of a woman. The woman floated she was the definition of grace and elegance. The only thing that disturbed Kagome was her eyes, although she was made of light her eyes were black and deep they had seen sorrow, hate , depression , and fear. Kagome stood her face showed no fear or emotion of any kind , she stood and faced the strange woman with no reluctance at all.
"Do you wish to make your dreams a reality ?" the figure spoke in a harsh demanding female voice that made Kagome shiver.
"I don't understand the question." Kagome said "what do you mean by my dreams?"
The woman spoke " I can see into your very soul Kagome your every thought ,emotion ,action, or dream you have either had or are going to have. These things and more apparent in your eyes; look into your soul and tell me do you want to make your deepest desires a reality?"
The comment scared Kagome a little ,she though about what the women had said and after a while she understood the odd woman's question. " What does reality have to offer me but a broken home, a broken heart ,and no happiness in sight. My reality is a nightmare in disguise. What do I have to gain from it but pain." She looked away form the floating figure her sadness was apparent. Feeling her pain the woman floated down to her level and spoke.
"I Kikyou can help take away the pain just answer my question ."
"Yes is my answer." Kagome said this but the truth was she had no idea what dream the woman was going to make true . I mean she had so many which one was going to become reality?
The woman floated back up she stretched out her arms and her hand were open wide . Her hair move around her and she spoke in a deep demanding voice but the words she spoke made no scenes to Kagome they were in another language an ancient and complex. The words swam around in Kagome's head they made her dizzy , the room spun around her , her vision began to blur the word got louder until that was all she was able to hear. She fell to the ground once a sharp pain was emitted from her chest . The last thing she saw before passed out was the woman figure looming over her.
