Chapter 1 - Best Friends

"Sesshomaru!"

Sesshomaru turned to face his best friend.

"Oops, sorry I'm late!" Kagome said sheepishly. Sesshomaru sighed as he tilted his head, "Get in, we're going to school NOW." Kagome smiled and hopped in, as she shoved her bag at the back.

They reached Shikon High within 10 minutes. Sesshomaru Taisho practically ruled the school, no one messed with him, and anyone who did never lasted too long.

Their group mainly consisted of Kouga, Miroku, Inuyasha, Sango, Ayame, Kikyo, Kagome, and of course Sesshomaru. However, there were other people like Hiten, Bankotsu, and of course, any girlfriend of Sesshomaru's would automatically join the group.

The only couples included Ayame and Kouga, Kikyo and Inuyasha, and CURRENTLY Kagura and Sesshomaru.

Kagome had been friends with Sesshomaru since the age of five due to their parents being good friends. Kagome was close friends with Inuyasha as well, but she was more attached to Sesshomaru since Inuyasha's attitude was not best-friend material for her. She was the most innocent one out of the whole group. She was shy, lively, and cheery. She was compassionate and always so giving.

Her family were the 'do-all-good' kind, who lived in a very nice home along with a shrine.

She was also one year younger than everyone else was, because she went one year ahead in class since she was a very advanced student.

"Sesshou-baby!" Kagura beamed. Kagome rolled her eyes. 'Sessho-baby? What kind of name was that?'

Sesshomaru kissed her as she sauntered over to him. Sango walked over to Kagome, "Hey Kags."

"Hey Sango. Where's Miroku?" Sango rolled her eyes, "Probably groping another girl's ass." Kagome giggled.

"Ah Kagome you're here," called Miroku as he rushed towards her- his eyes gleaming. He hugged her. "Ano...Miroku-kun," Kagome nervously spoke, waiting for his hand to grab her rear- she didn't have to wait long. "Eeep!" Kagome squealed, her body as usual reacted, and she arched into him, trying to get her butt away from him. Miroku groaned. 'Thank Kami, she never slaps me.'

Sesshomaru growled, but before he could say or rather DO anything, Sango beat him to the punch- literally. She pulled Miroku away and then punched Miroku. Kagome blushed as Miroku released her. He feigned a gasp, then said, "Aw Sango, there's plenty of me to go around!" He then groped her ass. SMACK! "Shut up!" Sango gritted, her face pink. Miroku sighed in pain.

Everyone would think Miroku's favourite person to grope was Sango due to their frequent flirtation much to Sango's denial, but it was actually Kagome. It's partly because she did not give the same reaction as every women did- a slap. Instead, Kagome would blush and arch into him, in hopes that his hand would not touch her ass. But that just brought her closer to his chest, much to Miroku's delight.

Inuyasha and Kouga laughed as Kikyo and Ayame both shook their heads. "Kagome, I swear you have to learn to HIT that lecher- you're practically his favourite!" Kagome blushed again, "I'm sorry but he's MIROKU-KUN!" Sango stared at her blankly, as if saying, "So?"

"I can't hit my friend!" Kagome said stubbornly, "I haven't hit anyone before!" Sesshomaru smiled, she was so innocent and child-like. Just then the bell rang, meaning lessons began.

Everyone knew not to mess with Kagome, because she was under Sesshomaru's wing. Any guy that so much as looked at her was like going up against Sesshomaru. He couldn't help it, he was simply overprotective of her.

LUNCHTIME

"Kagome, where have you been?" demanded Sesshomaru.

"Just talking to the teacher Sesshou, I haven't gone missing or anything. Oooh! Is that turkey?"

Kagome plopped herself next to Sesshomaru and took a bite of his sandwich. Sesshomaru didn't mind since this was a regular thing for them- they'd always share their foods as such.

"There's a new club in town," said Kouga, "Wanna go later this evening?"

"Oh but I'm underage!" pouted Kagome, making her look adorable. It's true she only jut turned 17, where as the rest were all 18 like five months ago.

Kouga chuckled, "Uh well..."

"Don't worry Kagome, Sesshomaru can get you in- no one will say no to him!" said Inuyasha with a grin.

Kagome grinned at Sesshomaru, "You will, won't you?" she asked with large doe eyes, her clear blue eyes sparkling.

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes, "Ok."

"Yay!" and Kagome took another bite from her cheese roll.

"Hey Ayame, Kags, Kikyo- come around my house, we can get dressed there!"

"Sure!"

The guys just rolled their eyes.

"What's the new club called?" asked Kagome.

"Bone Eater's Well- don't ask me why," said Inuyasha who just held his hands in a 'back off' manner.

"Hey Sessho, where's Kagura?" asked Kagome.

"She is in detention."

Suddenly a boy with brown sandy hair came up. "Kagome?" he asked.

Everyone looked up, Kagome eyes widened and she smiled. "Hojo! Oh hang on for a minute," Kagome scrambled up and took out her maths book, and went up to him.

"I won't be long guys!" she shouted to them, everyone watched as Hojo and Kagome walked to a nearby bench. Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes. "Who is this Hojo?" he said in a hard voice.

"Oh he's in Kagome's maths class," replied Sango. 'I think Sesshomaru is going to scare another guy away from Kagome, poor girl, she can hardly get a boyfriend with Sesshomaru around.'

"Hi Hojo," said Kagome.

"Hey Kagome," he said, his cheeks going slightly pink. Sesshomaru bared his fangs.

"So I was wondering if you could help me with that question..."

"Oh sure thing," said Kagome, she flipped her maths book. "Ok, here's what you do..."

Kagome's shoulder touched Hojo's, Hojo could feel the warmth radiate from her. He saw her as his sunshine in the morning, he had a crush on her for a long time, but he was unsure about the fact whether she was with Sesshomaru. Then he found out he was just her friend.

Her ... best friend.

So it was all clear for him to date her right? Wrong. Everyone in the school knew she was untouched, pure, innocent, the most dangerous, rich and powerful youkai's best friend. Girls envied her; she could be that close to THE Sesshomaru Taisho as much as she wanted. And her innocence called to the men as they lusted after her beauty.

After Kagome finished explaining, Hojo walked her to her group. He was scared shitless, I mean he was going to the most popular group in the school that held THE Sesshomaru Taisho.

"Thanks for helping me Kagome," said Hojo, seeing her beside him made him slightly less nervous.

"No problem, you need help anytime, call me okay?"

"Cheers, I'll see you in class," said Hojo with a smile and was rewards with one of Kagome's full blown out grin.

"Sure!"

Kagome sat back down next to Sesshomaru. "What did he want?" he asked with one eyebrow raised.

"Oh he was stuck on a maths question- and he asked for help."

"Couldn't he ask the teacher?" asked Sesshomaru cynically. If it were any other girl, they would have probably started getting really pissed off with his sceptical comments, but not Kagome. To her, it was like Sesshomaru being curious.

"Hmm...true, but hey, I bet he thought I was a much better explainer, coz I swear I had to do extra homework just so I could understand some of the formulae! That Mrs Kudu expects us to know everything just by one worked example without an explanation!" Kagome huffed and then dug into her apple.

"Oh Kags, you do know it's an old guy trick where the guy pretends to be stuck on their homework, so they can get all close up...I do it all the time," said Miroku with a grin.

Sango smacked him on the head. "Ouch!" Miroku yelped.

Kagome blushed and her eyes were wide, mouth slightly hung open. "N...no, Hojo wouldn't do that!"

'So naive,' thought Sesshomaru, he was going to have to meet this Hojo personally.

"Besides, I swear no one wants to go out with me. No one ever asks me- I think I'm a dork."

"You're not a dork," replied Sesshomaru stoically. Kagome smiled and leaned her head against his muscular arm. "It's your job to say that," she giggled.

"I would go out with you," grinned Miroku lecherously. Kagome raised her eyebrows. Sesshomaru shot him a glare.

Kagome laughed nervously, "May be later...much later..." she murmured, worried about her butt.

"Now c'mon, how about I pick you up today, and I'll show you a real date, and I'll be you're first..." Inuyasha growled- he was also protective over Kagome, she was like his sister.

"I meant first date!" cried Miroku, cowering behind the glares.

Kagome laughed, "You're so sweet 'Roku!" It was official, only Kagome could see any good thing in that lecher.

"Kagome you will not be going with that lecher," said Sesshomaru.

Once again, any other girl would have thrown a fit and demanded that she had the right to make her own choices. But not Kagome. She was unknowingly submissive when it came to Sesshomaru, he would always tell her what to do, even when they were playing games when they were young. Kagome tended to make suggestions instead, in which Sesshomaru would decide whether it was good or not.

Kagome never really thought that Sesshomaru COULD NOT tell her what to do. She would just try her best to convince him and then only do what she wanted with his approval. It had always been that way... she never really thought about it.

"Oh but why not?" asked Kagome with a pout. "It's only Miroku," she said earnestly. "Besides, this will give me a taster for the future."

'You won't be going with anyone in the future,' thought Sesshomaru with a growl.

Sango stared in horror and jealousy. "Kagome, you can't possibly think of going with him!" Kagome rolled her eyes, "It's just a date, besides I haven't been on one! No one ever seems interested in me!"

Everyone glanced at Sesshomaru who just looked indifferent, but inside he uncomfortably stirred a bit. Sango understood, and now kind of felt like blaming Sesshomaru that Kagome had to date Miroku as a last resort.

"C'mon Sesshou, besides you'll be there as well, you can keep an eye on Miroku anyways."

Sesshomaru sighed, and then narrowed his eyes at Miroku, silently telling him he would wring his neck, take out his intestines, then strangle it with him and feed him to the birds, if he harmed Kagome in any way.

Miroku simply laughed nervously.

Sesshomaru sighed inwardly. He didn't like it one bit, but at least with Miroku he knew Kagome wouldn't be going too far with him, and it was only one time thing. She wouldn't be going on any more dates with him besides this one. And Miroku would know very well what he would do to him if he ever harmed Kagome in any way.

All the males knew what would happen to them if any advanced on Kagome. They knew from experience.

FLASHBACK

You dare go any where near Kagome, ask her out, touch her- and you're dead." He threw the boy to the floor, he was all bruised up, and he was breathing raggedly.

"Do you understand?"

"Hai," he managed to croak.

After that, Kagome never saw him again, she was told he transferred to a new school. She was upset but then got over it, she was actually considering going out with him.

The majority of the school knew what happened, all except Kagome.

END OF FLASHBACK

"Thank you!" squealed Kagome, and she leaned back on the tree eating her last piece of strawberry.

The bell rang, and everyone got up to go to their respective classes. "I'll see you soon Kagome!" shouted Miroku. Kagome blushed and shook her head as she walked with Sango and Kikyo.

Kouga, Ayame, and Inuyasha went to their class, which left Sesshomaru and Miroku. Sesshomaru walked up to Miroku, "Just what do you think you are doing?"

Miroku sighed, "Don't worry man, I won't do anything with her, I'm just taking her on a date since I feel... sorry for her okay!

Sesshomaru, none of the guys will ever go up to her since they're so scared of you..."

"That was the point," spoke Sesshomaru stoically.

"Yes I know that," Miroku rolled his eyes, "and I understand you want to protect Kagome, so just let me take her on a date. You know me so you don't have to worry about me doing anything to her, cool?"

"Hn very well, make sure you show her a good time, and keep your hands to yourself."

Miroku grinned, "I'll try."

Sesshomaru couldn't shrug off that feeling of possessiveness and envy. He didn't know where it was coming from, or why he was feeling it- so he ignored it.
