You could hear the wind rushing past the branches in swift motions.

You could hear ice crunching under human feet.

You could hear the calls of angry men set out on a cruel mission.

You could hear the wolves howling into the night...

"Kagome wake up."

"Mmmfttt..."

"Kagome don't make me get the water."

"Mmmmfftt...."

"I'll do it!"

"Ugh! Fine, I'm getting up Aunt Ayame." Kagome got up from her bed and stretched, while almost hitting Ayame in the face. She rubbed her eyes, yawned, and got her bathing supplies together to head out to the nearby hot springs with her aunt.

Flashback.

"Kagome run!"

"Mama! Please don't leave me! What's going on!" A frantic 8 year old little girl cried out as she saw her father fall from the shot that penetrated the air. She audibly gasped and started running for her life. Her little brother Souta was crying as they ran to the basement to get to the extra entrance out of their house. She turned around and saw her mother fall from another air cutting shot. She was worried as she ran faster and faster she heard a terrible cry as she saw her dead brother on the ground behind her. She heard the calls of slayers paid to rid of them come closer to her. She finally reached the exit and crawled through hastily; Kagome made a break for it through the thick,well-known forests of her time. Then she heard dogs...

The dogs were also gaining on her trail for their sense of smell surpassed any human. Kagome stopped to turn around as her blood boiled. Her eyes glowed a strange hint of sapphire blue and hazed over with a tint of amber making them seem outer worldly. The dogs reacted harshly and quickly ran away leaving a scared and alone Kagome wandering through the night...

Ayume noticed her neice glazed over with thought and splashed water into her face in hopes to get her recollected.

"HUH WHAT HAPPENED?" Kagome blurted out.

"Ahhahas, nothing dear. You just seemed to be in la la land." Ayume giggled, but quickly stopped as she saw the look in Kagome's eyes. "You're thinking about that night again aren't you?"

"I miss them..."

"I miss my sister, too, and little Souta and your father as well, but we must move on! In fact, I hear you're to take my place as the head alpha female of the pack Kagome. Although... I'll never stop loving Kouga, he just has to follow tradition. I know that Aki will be a great leader of this pack someday. He has Koga's blood, so I know he will, but you must make another heir for him. You must keep this pack alive for we..."

"Are the last of our kind blah blah blah... I get it Aunt Ayame, but I just wish..."

"You could love another?"

"Yeah..."

"Kagome," Ayame lifted her chin up to make her look at her. "You owe Koga your life. He saved you that night the slayers came to kill you and your family. The least you can do is mate with him and keep us alive..."

"Aunt Ayame.. I know, but I can't help but wish you know?" Kagome lowered herself into the water so that only the top of her slighty elfin ears protruded from beneath the water. Ayame sighed and wished Kagome could understand the great task that was being handed to her. For it was the only hope left to keep her and the pack alive and non-extinct..

"Koga, are you announcing your next intended tonight at the hunt?"

"Yes, Ginta I am."

"It's gonna be Kagome, right?"

"You will find out for yourself tonight. Prepare the human. For the hunt starts in 2 hours!"
