If you use Google Docs as your primary word processor you need to back up all of your fanfic just in case.
A troubling post was made on Tumblr about how Google is deleting anything of sexual content in people's google drives and docs.
the link to the post is here: k9plus1.tumblr.com/post/172743290956/vineyardelf-armeleia-jeza-red
There is also weight to these allegations.
This post will also help you to save anything in your drive as well.
KEEP YOUR FIC SAFE!
Hope this helps I just want to make sure no one gets their work taken away forever!

I'm more to trust a link directly from Google, than from tumblr or vice, especially in regards to fanfiction. What I'm seeing is more about blatant porn imagery, as many are uploading copyrighted material to their Drive.
I need a resource that is more substantial and directly from the source before I can even pass the word about this.
Thanks!

There are links within the post.
Though one resource says: "When I asked about sexual content being blocked on Drive, a spokesperson for Google directed me to the Drive policy page—specifically the section on sexually explicit material, which says, “Do not publish sexually explicit or pornographic images or videos.... Additionally, we do not allow content that drives traffic to commercial pornography.” Writing about porn and sex is permitted, the policy states, as long as it’s not accompanied by sexually explicit images or videos. According to Google, Drive uses a combination of automated systems and manual review to decide what’s in violation."
Terms and conditions ALWAYS change and they could start deleting fic af any time.
I remember the LJ purges. I remember losing a ton of content.
I'm just trying to spread the word and help out anyone who uses google drive or docs as a way to save or write fic just in case.

The truest distressing news is that the 'copy from word processor' button when publishing a fic chapter on Dokuga doesn't seem to recognize google docs as a word processor meaning I have to go through and format everything I need in italics manually. ;-;

Since I don't use it, I was wondering... was Google Docs even a thing back in 2008 when this site was created?? Or the last time the site creator was here in, like, 2010? If it wasn't big then, it wasn't coded into the site. That's the long and short of it.
The worst part of that is... I don't code. I am a complete Philistine when it comes to coding. I couldn't fix most of this site if my life depended on it.
Aaaand, the worst part of THAT is... I'm still gonna ask you all to contribute to keep us going. Yup, it's fundraising time again! Look for that annual PM soon.

It's a good thing I only mostly use drive as a back up and all my hard copies are on a SD card. Lol

Docs was a thing in 2010 but wasn't used very often. It's gotten really popular over the last few years because it's so easy to share it with other people and edit. Plus you dont have to install it which saves space.
Yeah I save constantly. I've been burned too much to not backup everything.

Google Docs was also a thing in 2008. I recall, because that's when I started teaching and I had all my students create an account for ease of distributing and handing in digital assignments.

Oh, believe me, if I had the time, I'd dive in... but I'm working full time at our family business. I know lots of people who, at my age, have the stamina to do both, but I'm not one of them. Sorry!!
Maybe someday I can retire and fix things, but for now I'm stuck.

If you look above, you'll notice that Dokuga doesn't transfer italics and other formatting from Google Docs when you use the 'Paste from Word Processor button.' Many people have to manually insert their formatting when they've already formatted their documents once before.
I don't have that problem because I do my formatting in a word processor, but instead of using the button to paste from a Word Processor, just do a copy and paste from MS Word. That doesn't work if I use WordPerfect, but it works well from MS Word. Also, I highly recommend formatting one's text in a neutral-type font, like Verdana, as other fonts tend to show up either really tiny or strange in some ways. I've noticed the use of Calibri, especially, messes with the site's hive-mind, lol.
Other things I'd dearly love to fix include formatting the site for mobile usage, finding a way to keep spammers out (I have to manually block some 40 to 60 per day), and some other niggling problems.
Other than that, the site's fine, LOL!

Oh, Right.
Mobile format would be nice, I'm accessing this site 99% from my phone because I read when going to and coming from work on the bus. lol

Oh so on what I brought up about text formatting when it comes to the word processor copy button I've found a solution for those who are using google docs instead of Microsoft Word or some other word processor. Of course, this solution will only work for you if you're uploading fics on both Dokuga and ff.net, which I assume a lot of people do.
Post your word to ff.net first, once you publish the chapter you'll be given the option to export the chapter back to doc manager. Once you do that you'll be able to edit it. Copy and paste directly from that edit prompt on to Dokuga with the copy from word processor option and your formatting changes will be carried over.
