What's a good size canvas to work on highly detailed drawing/painting?

Working with adobe here ^_^


I've tried 3200 x 2400 px. And its still rather "small" for detailing the eye.

(I was working on a full body portrait... that's why the in that size, the eye detailing might be really... pixelly?)


-- What's a good size sketch book for full body sketches?

I have a standard size one.. and it's REALLY small to me. (sighs)
Too small to even work on the eye detail too =/

wow... that's really big already.. but it depends on the actual size of what you're drawing. a small detail like the eye cans still be small when it comes to focusing on it when the actual size of the entire body you're drawing is small.

Think first about the final size of your drawing. it may help since you're initially working with a BIG file.

I'd adjust the resolution and not the size of the picture. the standard for me is 72 pixels per inch, but you can adjust that size to make it have more pixels per square inch so that it might be easier to detail something. o.o

lol. i'm starting to confuse myself as i write this out.

i hope it helps a little. if all else fails, just adjust the 3200x2400 by another 600. that's what i do sometimes.

Well, I know places like the Hobby Robby-I mean lobby- sells some really nice sketch pads. All shapes and sizes. I myself like the standard sketchbooks. they are easier to carry and the like. and, just as the same as what Rikayu said about the compy style, it depends on the size of your drawing. If you are like my sis and want to draw a portrait size picutre, and put every little detail you can in, then I would suggest the much larger scale ones taht are about half the size or your body. if it is scenery with people, landscape style art books are the better. Although, I'm prolly being frowned upon by the art world right now, as I always am. (I shade drawings using pencil lead and my finger.) after all, I'm not a through and through artist, like sis. I'm just a soemthing turns out good, better at drawing dumpling people kinda gal, who makes web comics for fun. O.o

Although, it might help with the tools you are using too. Sometimes a thinner ended utensil is better. user larger tips for shading and outlining. You thin for detail work. That's abotu all I can say.

aww smitteeeeeee dun say that. i truly believe that anyone can be an artist. whatever they can give out is art, no matter how much they don't like how it came out. o.o

aaaand yush. concerning large sketchbook. i have.. err had (i left it back in saipan when i move to guam, darn it) a reallllly big sketch book. 9in x 24in. i don't remember. but it was HUGE. o.o

i used it for my block prints but also to do bigger, more detailed works. Those take forever though and are a big pain to try and scan.

I currently use a 8 1/2 x 11 inch. And I'm running extremely low, about 20 pages left of 100.

Is the Iris a full circle??

(i've seen stock photos that have full irises, but i just want to make sure if it seems "normal" to other artists!)
