All things considered, the original tales are so much darker (which has its own appeal), so I'm being a little harsh.

What is the best Valentine's Day you've ever had?

My best friend in high school and I NEVER had boyfriends during Feb.

Not by choice necessarily, it just always worked out that way. We would call each other up and wish each other Happy Valentine's Day and laugh at how lame we were. This went on even into college.

One year, I called her and said, "Happy V.D.!" She burst into tears. Now I knew she was having a REALLY rough year in school, so I was glad I had called, since she obviously needed to talk.

"How did you know?" she sobbed.
"Everybody knows." I said
"Whaaat? Why does everybody know?" She was REALLY upset.
Now I figure out we are talking about two different things. I said, "It's Valentine's Day..."
"oh."
"What did you think I was talking about?"

Turns out, the boyfriend she had just broken up with for cheating on her, left her with a small case of v.d. She had just gotten the news right before I called. She had totally forgotten about Valentine's Day.

Now every year, we call each other because our husbands are out of town, and we laugh about that stupid phone call.
