I might write a one-shot based on this picture, but for the moment I'm undecided.
The summed up version is that Sesshomaru was so obsessed with his Tenchi and feared she would leave that he decided to ensure that she couldn't.
So in order to ensure she would stay with him always, he rent her wings from her body and marked her in a way that everyone would know she belonged to him.
If only he knew that to clip a Tenchi's wings was to end their life...

Reminds me how once, I saw a woman in my ER whose husband cut her legs off so she'd never leave him. She got septic and died. I wish I knew what became of the hubby. I would have loved to throw him in jail myself.
